Calculating a UMS grade

I wonder if anyone can help?

 

I am trying to calculate an overall English Language and English Lit grade since we have recently done a Mock exam.

 

The English Lang GCSE consists of 3 Units

 

Unit 1 out of 80 = 60% of final grade - (U1 mark/80) x 0.60

Unit 2 is not taken into consideration

Unit 3 out of 80 = 40% of final grade - (U3 mark/80) x 0.40

 

The English Lit GCSE consists of 3 Units

 

Unit 1 out of 68 = 40% of final grade - (U1 mark/68) x 0.40

Unit 2 out of 54 = 35% of final grade - (U2 mark/54) x 0.35

Unit 3 out of 40 = 25% of final grade - (U3 mark/40) x 0.25

 

Does this calculate the UMS grades? And then i need to find the corresponding grade boundaries that go with the UMS marks?

 

Sorry if I have made no sense, but any advice would be great!

If only it were this straight forward!

 

You will need to get the marking scheme from the exam board for the paper they sat (assuming it is a past paper) and use that to convert raw marks to UMS. There is not necessarily a linear relationship! You then need the UMS to grade conversion, this is often based fixed percentages equalling certain grades.

 

None of this is fixed, sensible or fair. But that's the way it goes.
