Hi Graham,

Can the knowledge base search for schools with LA support be reinstated?

Currently the MySupport website states the following.

*If you receive support from a local authority or third party support team check with them before using any of these solutions.

This seems to be a reasonable warning to give people when they have found a knowledge base solution.

Also, can the file sharing section somehow be restored?

Thank you.

There are two threads under the bugs section on this subject. For LA supported schools - apparently, you never should have had KB access - that was a bug!

For file sharing - they are asking for examples of what we'd want, i've posted, but you should add your own view there.

Another disappointed LA supported school here. We've had a valuable resource reduced to dross.

Now, instead of a five minute task to search it myself I have to put a call in to the LA, wait half a day for a response and then repeat the process until I get the answer I need. What a waste of taxpayers' money.

Some movement, a quote from the site:-

"we have applied a level of security that is not required"

I think that's a pretty good euphemism, might use it myself one day.

For KB access? I'm not sure if that's linked to your LA Support issue, or a more general one:

For the LA supported schools this was the answer:

I'm afraid you won't be able to access the Knowledge Base if you receive LA support. If you were able to do this previously on SupportNet there may have been something wrong with your account settings.

Dear Edugeekers,

Thanks for all your queries on this topic. Replacing SupportNet is, of course, a major undertaking, and for this community especially it was a useful and often consulted resource. We want My Account to be even better and bring some of the features that more modern (than SupportNet) websites can offer. It will be much easier to develop, enhance and improve than SupportNet in the future, and we needed to change.

That said, like you all, I know change is a pain (or can be!) I speak as someone who only recently got to grips with the Microsoft ribbon. I resisted upgrading to Office 2013 for as long as possible and for a long time I couldn't make PowerPoint slides the way I had been doing for years. This is not meant to be a trite example - just a way of me saying 'I know where you are coming from'. Now I have been using My Account internally for a while I'm pretty impressed and can see the potential for future enhancements.

So I apologise for the problems you have faced today and your feedback is helping us. Thank you.

If you are having any technical issues you can email [email protected] or you can call our temporary support number 0800 130 3990, which is open Monday – Thursday 8:30 to 17:00 and Friday 8.30 to 16:30. We also have a 'bugs and suggestions' forum within My Account, where we can look into any issues you log and other users can also flag if it affects them.

Some of you also raised some questions on the following areas:

1) File sharing area

You can now share files with other users on the forums in the community area, so there shouldn’t be any loss in functionality. It’s not something we had much feedback about during Alpha or Beta testing. If there are specific files in the old file sharing area you need access to please let us know on the portal forums so we can look at the best way to provide easy access.

2) Change requests

Change requests have been transferred over from SupportNet but their votes haven’t. Don’t worry - we will look at transferring the votes over. This shouldn’t be too difficult.

3) Knowledgebase

We are looking at how we have applied security and permissions settings and we will work to resolve this as soon as we can so users have access to all the knowledgebase articles they need.

Only used SupportNet twice in my 8 years working in schools and it never solved the issue so never bothered with it. Looks pretty good :) Hope the PowerPoints are coming along nicely I know some Year 6's who are pretty good at them if you ever need some help Graham :D sorry couldn't resist

There is a solution in place now for accessing the historical file shares.

Use the knowledge base search and a popular search for historical files is available on the right hand side.

Download the spreadsheet and it has links to popular files from the last 3 years.

I guess that figures really, as they are completely different systems. Thankfully, I wasn't subscribed to any...

They moved the threads. The threads have IDs. All you need is a mapping and a list of what each user had subscribed to. They are both databases after all, it's our bread and butter. We could have advised!

The issue with My Account is now resolved, the solution to this issue relies upon replication services to complete, if you are still unable to connect a device restart should help to restore connection.
