Dos_Box Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 If I was to fit a new drive to my home media PC which would be better, in terms of survivability and availability. A quick look around shows Blu-Ray to be far more prevelant and widely available, whilst HD drives are almost non existant.

The others are about £120. Wait a while and that £400 will eventually come down to something more affordable. The whole HDDVD vs bluray debate is pretty irrelevant anyway. With the relatively low cost of HDD technology and the numerous options for large capacity PVR's and DVR's watching or recording anything on optical media is soooo passe. Anyway the byword for HD optical has always been DRM. Why dance to the tune of the film studios who insist on the need for this crap.

It also means I could preorder the special "Deckard Briefcase" version of Blade Runner from Amazon US, as the blu-ray version has no region restriction (quite a lot don't) and the uk edition doesn't come with the case anymore (sigh).

Betamax lost out because Sony refused to licence porn..... Guess who needs to licence porn for blue ray.... Better get an HD player for my new xbox!!!
