Tools to verify/certify new cat5e/cat6 cable run?

Hi All,

 

I would like a means of testing new cable runs so that they can be certified and/or compared. I would ideally like to be able to measure noise, length of cable, crosstalk and (not essential) max throughput. But i want to be able to do this independently of any switches so that it's just a test of the physical cable. Any tools, testers or useful software tips would be much appreciated.

...both do cable length. ...both require a switch or dongle at the end for other tests.

 

Only the really expensive testers will do Mhz rating/certification.

Depends if you want to buy or a more cost effective method for this type of equipment might be to hire. How often are you going to certify cable runs?

 

I found this company really helpful. They have all the equipment and can arrange next day delivery before 10 if required.

It also has the benefit that you can try the equipment to make sure it is what you are looking for before maybe you purchase - this type of equipment can be really expensive - unless you are using it a lot and certifying cables every week I wouldn't see the benefit of buying.
