MS Licensing for our Academy Trust

Hi All,

 

This Microsoft licensing is starting to annoy (where have i heard that before!). We're an academy trust of 6 schools with plans to grow up to 20 by then end of 2015. I'm looking at the types of Microsoft licensing that would suit us as a trust. We would be looking at the usual licensing of server, CALS, Office and windows.

 

Does anyone have any tips on finding out what would suit us best?

I presume with the Schools Agreement you pay a yearly fee then pay £x for each software license at a lower rate.

I'd look at EES for each individual school and register them to a central email address to manage. Keep them all with one supplier and then it keeps things simple plus the supplier can help you out with any query for any of the schools.

 

Make sure it's a supplier that knows what they are talking about too (me )

Is EES the one where it's based on FTE staff?

 

If so, the trouble is one of the schools (the one im in now) we have around 60 staff for a school with around 500 pupils (we're a teaching school too). So the cost would be sky high.

It should still work out cheaper than a schools agreement though?

AFAIK there's a price drop at 1000 FTE

reading through the guide, over 1000FTE means you can "sign through a Large Account Reseller (LAR) by signing a the Campus and School Agreement and the Enrollment for Education Solutions (CASA+EES)"

 

Students count towards the 1000 too.

We managed to successfully combine our separate site EES agreements into one 'Trust' one. Since we have a number of staff that teach in more than one of the schools in the trust it made the price drop even further. Hats off to MS for changing to FTE counts.

£2300 per year for our school, eek! That was based on 70 FTE instead of the 60 as it was more of guess first time. When looking at the Select Plus for Academic, from what i read you just pay for the license. Would that be; MOLP A, MOLP B, SELECT or Schools?

My best suggestion is as was stated before; speak to a good reseller. Phoenix are awesome for us and answer us in plain English. Avoid Microsoft like the plague, as you've already found out you'll be caught in a series of rubbish links and information that may or may not apply to what you may or may not think is the right solution for the campus or establishment type you may or may not have, in a country you may or may not live in!

Nope - we're under 1,000 FTE but it made sense to amalgamate them. They didn't expire at the same time either but they were very accommodating over this - probably because there was only a month or so in it.
