Garacesh Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 The skills, yes. The skill trees for weapons are the same regardless of race (and I assume the ones for class and armour are, too) But a Wood Elf Archer will hit harder than a Nordic Archer due to class bonuses, if there's enough points to skill those, too.
featured_spectre Posted March 17, 2014 Author Posted March 17, 2014 Thats true, but thats a racial perk which is unattainable otherwise. However in terms of tech, armour, skills etc, they all have the same max level. Opening bonuses can be used to your advantage however. Being a mage with a bow and arrow back up is a good thing, you're ranged either way, you can interrupt and do hefty damage, so its a good backup.
Garacesh Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Thats true, but thats a racial perk which is unattainable otherwise. And that's my exact problem. The Wood Elf Archer by design has an advantage over the Bretonian, Nordic, Argonian etc Archer. Which when you're bringing in different factions that are supposed to not like each other, is a bit of a problem. (Yes, you could say it's 'fair' because that means Wood Elves don't get Mage bonuses or Tank bonuses whereas other races do, but I just don't feel the Race perks should exist - Fair because you get one perk and they get a different one that you don't isn't 'fair' in my eyes. But maybe that's just me.) However in terms of tech, armour, skills etc, they all have the same max level. Opening bonuses can be used to your advantage however. Being a mage with a bow and arrow back up is a good thing, you're ranged either way, you can interrupt and do hefty damage, so its a good backup. Is valid point, and one that I indeed considered given my mage was a Wood Elf - I'm going to be sat at the back of the group anyway, aren't I? So would it be worth speccing Bow and Arrow + Magic instead of Staff + Magic? Maybe I'm just being too critical. I'm not going to sit here and say my word is absolute and the game is 'wrong' because of the avenue it's chosen to go down. If there are any further beta weekends planned I'd gladly carry on and see if my opinion changes. It's entirely possible that I just haven't played enough to let the hiccoughs settle yet and in fact I'd really enjoy it. I'm not even 100% 'No' about it, there's still part of me that wants to play. I just can't justify stumping the price on the game (+ subscription) when currently I'm too iffy about it.
featured_spectre Posted March 17, 2014 Author Posted March 17, 2014 You aren't the only one who thought the race perks weren't fair, but to be honest, they've been a part of the game since Day 1, going right back to Elder Scrolls Arena (now that takes me back!!). The point about the weaponry, you wont get to switch between 2 sets until you're rank 15, you can still change mid game or whatever, just wont get the quick swap option until rank 15. You can spec half bow skills, half mage skills, so you could heal for example, whilst dealing out hefty damage and it would be a good mix. As for more beta weekends, I just dont know the answer, if they do, it would have to be next weekend. As for your game, if you dont want to stump up the £50, why not pay £30 with this site? https://www.g2a.com/the-elder-scrolls-online-cd-key-preorder-global.html?___store=english&___currency=GBP&id=51&adid=GMC_GB&gclid=CNTqwLG6mb0CFQoYwwod7hQAVQ
Garacesh Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 (edited) Hm.. £30 is certainly more manageable (I'm guessing that's your referral link?) Honestly I'm open to being persuaded. Like I said, want to like it, I really do. It just hasn't made that much of an impression on me, which is probably down to not playing enough of it, and partially because it's new and I haven't figured out what character line I'm going to go down yet. I don't like being dedicated healer, though. I don't mind being the sort of 'Paladin' class that provides buffs and maybe heals a little bit, whilst still kicking out some damage (though not being damaged focussed).. I call them Semi-Support classes (Again, with the Aion example, Chanters).. But don't put me as the Cleric xD Edited March 17, 2014 by Garacesh
featured_spectre Posted March 17, 2014 Author Posted March 17, 2014 not my referal link, just one I found. I've used the site before and they've been good for me. As for not playing enough, that is unfortunate. I've been lucky (or unlucky) enough to be playing since the closed beta. It has been massively improved in a lot of areas (quest glitches, race glitches) and small improvements elsewhere (one closed beta weekend, they maxed out every character from the start and did only main questline only to see how long it would take to fight molag bol...was not a pretty one) Overall I am happy to be paying out for it as it is one I can get longevity from. If I need to stop, I will cancel the payments and carry on when I can.
Sunnyknight Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 As for stealth, it is of no use in PvP, goes for WoW as much as it goes for GW2, and same for ESO. Stealth is pretty much a PvE thing, and it does work if you apply it correctly. Unless you were a horrid Rogue, or Thief in WoW / GW2, there is no way in hell stealth is useless. Utilizing it, and finding the right time to stealth / pop out of stealth and kite is the main difficulty. I think it'll take time, a lot of patches, and a few extra tinks to get stealth working. If there was a system for stealth as GW2 has (Pref GW2 stealth over WoW), then i think ESO would have developed the perfect 'Assassin' type character. Sad to hear you won't be playing Gara (wanted to find you on our territory (different faction) and knife you down like a ant ), hopefully you'll change your mind in the future.

Who needs friends 'eh? At £20 less with that link, it's looking more of an acceptable price to try and 'take a loss' on. I really hope they do one more beta just to give me a bit longer to play with it.
bushby Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 hay Gara, it could be worse and got the collectors edition of SWTOR/TERA when the were P2P and then hate it as it went F2P or Even worse got the collectors edition of APB i miss that game (i hate APB:reloaded)
Garacesh Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 I did the same. Paid £30 into the beta of APB and it was amazing!.... And then it died Honestly I've played some of the new F2P version and it feels a lot better. Weapons and character mods aren't ridiculous anymore as they all have debuffs as well as buffs (I remember how OP the OCR-EW "Undertaker" used to be!) and the basic gameplay still feels the same. Only reason I don't play it anymore is that I don't have any friends that play it and it's just not the kind of game you can solo. Sure, the monthly 'premium' is a bit of a gripe but it's no different, I guess, than paying for time like we used to, is it?
featured_spectre Posted March 17, 2014 Author Posted March 17, 2014 @Garacesh believe me when I say it is much better than it was before, by a large margin. Race perks were OverPowered (OP), bows were OP if you were sneaking, and levelling was shot to pieces (aside from 1 weekend where they auto levelled everyone to level 50, you could play for 10-15 hours and hit the top level). I say drop the £30, buy the game, if you dont like it after the first month, sell the account (not that I officially condone this)
arwen Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 @Garacesh It's £30 from amazon. Thats where I have bought it from
mrjonesybop Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 @Garacesh It's £30 from amazon. Thats where I have bought it from +1 on that

featured_spectre Posted March 18, 2014 Author Posted March 18, 2014 well if anyone wants to chip in to get a TS&Website going, donation block is up on the site listed. Tamriel Mining Corporation
Garacesh Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Does donating work now? Last time I tried it said I wasn't allowed to xP
Garacesh Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Are you sure? 'cause I honestly don't mind if you don't want my money
Garacesh Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Well if you're donating, I don't have to xP Alright, fine, I'll pre-order it for £30 and give it a go for the 5+30 days you get. I should be able to make my mind up based on that.
featured_spectre Posted March 18, 2014 Author Posted March 18, 2014 that works for me! haha and I have donated £5 of my own monies towards getting the domain name
featured_spectre Posted March 19, 2014 Author Posted March 19, 2014 If I buy up the website, will people actively visit, keep up to date etc?
Garacesh Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Depends how active we get. If we're going to be recruiting other people in-game (outside of EduGeek) then we can't just keep communications to here, can we? In which case, it makes sense to have a domain (though, realistically, I don't see buying one as being a requirement. I'd be fine with TMC.hostname or similar.
