Bradlys Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Hi guys, Just a question thread really. But first a bit of back story. Every morning I wake up at 8:10-8:20am, shower and am ready by 8:45 which is when I leave for work. I however find that between 9-12 I am lacking in energy and depending on the task, I lack motivation. I was wondering what breakfasts or foods I Can have to healthily keep myself going are?
teejay Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Personally, I'd look at getting up earlier and go for a brisk walk for half an hour, or go for a run. For breakfast, porridge or things with some protein such as eggs, nuts, ham etc, avoid sugary cereals.
Dos_Box Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 8:10!! Really!!! I envy you. Have children, then you will see that 7 am is a lie-in!! Seriously though, can I ask how old you are, and at what time you go to bed? I have found that cycling into work is a great way to get your body awake for work. 1
Gatt Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Ways to stay stimulated and happy in the office? Wonders how long before the inevitable NSFW comments start....

witch Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Your problem is, I think , that you must rush up and out with no breakfast or anything and your body, having been shocked awake and given no nutrition, then falls into a bit of an energy dip. You need breakfast and time to eat it. Even if you got up a little bit earlier, say 7.45, you would have time to eat something. If you are the sort of person who really can't face food that soon after getting up, maybe take porridge sachets to work to eat as soon as you are able? Nuts are a great source of protein too. Fresh fruit would add lots of vitamins.

I don't want children yet ;.; I'm 20 years old Personally, I'd look at getting up earlier and go for a brisk walk for half an hour, or go for a run. Thinking about maybe the breakfast bars, I don't like eating in the mornings because it makes me feel sick, so I'l give them a go
Poults Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 I used to feel like i didn't want to eat in the mornings but if you force yourself for a just a week or two you will find that you wake up hungry and its a lot easier, its just getting your body started in that routine.
teejay Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 If eating breakfast makes you feel ill, chances are you have an intolerance to something you're eating. If you are trying normal breakfast cereals with milk then you could well have a lactose (found in milk) or wheat intolerance. I would try starting off with a handful of nuts and berries and then maybe try porridge made with water etc. I would avoid processed food like cereal bars, they really won't help.
mthomas08 Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 I found a new job changed my motivation. Also I am very social towards the caretakers/site manager and have coffee with them just to lighten my mood.
sonofsanta Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 I very rarely eat breakfast in the morning - takes a couple of hours for me to feel hungry after waking up (I'm a slow riser, kids get dealt with by my autopilot). I have a banana about 10am with a couple of biscuits to dunk in my tea, keeps me going till lunch just nicely. The rhythm of lessons makes it easier as well, a bell going off every hour and thinking "oh, end of Period 2 already" breaks up the long stretches of time.
Driftingashore Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 How do I deal with distraction? Well, I have a ping pong ball in my office. Trying to bounce it into a distant cup has put a complete end to my wasting time trying to flick elastic bands onto a nail sticking out of the wall. Works a treat.
Stark Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 I no longer need an alarm clock as the boy wakes us here at 5:50am most mornings like clockwork, what I would say, is always have a decent breakfast, I was always one for skipping it entirely, but now I see how much of a difference it can make to your day, I knock away some probiotic yoghurt and muesli every morning before work and it keeps me going until lunchtime here and beyond if its particularly busy.
newpersn Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 I found a new job changed my motivation. Also I am very social towards the caretakers/site manager and have coffee with them just to lighten my mood. I'll do that during the hols. Take longer breaks but still get lots done.

Also I am very social towards the caretakers/site manager and have coffee with them just to lighten my mood. This. I get to work at 7, have coffee and something to eat with the site manager then crack on for the day at 8.30. Plenty of time to wake up and get going.
Bradlys Posted February 21, 2014 Author Posted February 21, 2014 Feeling better after waking up earlier. Sleeping pattern isn't all there so I'm getting about 5 hours sleep a night but I feel good during the day Most productive day ever today
AMLinington Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 I can't bear to eat when I've just got up so I usually get up at 7, leave the house at around 8 and then eat breakfast at my desk (Shredded Wheat with Lactofree Whole milk and Splenda). This usually tides me over until around 11 when I'll have an Alpen Light Cereal bar, then lunch at 1, then the usual afternoon slump tends to hit me between 3 and 4 so it's time for a Cadbury Highlights or Twinings fruit tea and a wander in the sub-arctic environment of the Support office (they like to grow icicles from the air con vents) then home at 5, dinner around 6.30.
DSapseid Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Moved to Ramsgate 4 months ago Go for a nice walk along the seafront through dumpton bay towards viking bay in broadstairs. My parents live in broadstairs and i love walking along the beach when down there and popping into my sisters restaurant on the seafront. I have a drawer in my desk full of porridge pots (75p each in asda) and have one most mornings as you just add hot water, sets me up for the day. I also have to have the radio on otherwise i cant concentrate, dont have it on loud just on 30 on my pc just to take away the quietness, dont even here it half the time but it takes away the silence and keeps me focused on the task at hand.

Get off the PC and get more sleep! (I say this from experience after realising BF4 stints until midnight with a 6am start were a bad idea...)
glennda Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 I used to have this - I now get up at 6:15 and go to the gym for an hour - then home shower and get breakfast in me at work (around 8:45/9) this this keeps me awake until mid afternoon!
Griff Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 I go for a mid morning walk around the school pop into some of the ICT suites see what the kids are up to they show me cool stuff then I head back to the office and grind on
laserblazer Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 @Bradlys have they still got that circuit training course around the park? A few circuits would set you up fine.
MrMat Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 I used to have this - I now get up at 6:15 and go to the gym for an hour - then home shower and get breakfast in me at work (around 8:45/9) this this keeps me awake until mid afternoon! This! Gym, Gym, Gym, Gym! Or at least some sort of exercise as others have suggested. I'm 24, no kids etc and I used to really struggle as well but forcing myself to get up and hit the gym before work has really helped. I get up at about 7, gf drops me at gym for 7:30ish, gym for about 1 hour and then walk to work, quick shower at work (we are fortunate enough to have onsite facilities) and be at my desk wide-eyed and ready to go for 9. Honestly, I can't recommend morning exercise enough!
abillybob Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 I was on Rust yesterday from 1pm until 12.30am, then went to bed as I needed to get up at 7! My brain was that stimulated I tossed and turned for around an hour and a half until I finally dropped off to bed! I'm perfectly fine, I do this regularly on a day to day basis maybe I'm a super human I think you just answered your question. Get off the PC and get more sleep! (I say this from experience after realising BF4 stints until midnight with a 6am start were a bad idea...)
