We have a vacancy for a site manager:

https://www4.ad.ic.ac.uk/OA_HTML/OA.jsp?page=/oracle/apps/irc/candidateSelfService/webui/VisVacDispPG&akRegionApplicationId=821&transactionid=349087666&retainAM=Y&addBreadCrumb=S&p_svid=43058&p_spid=1654093&oapc=7&oas=87VZ0xbljDCqcaGaFkbwNQ..

Salary in the range £42,670 - £51,590

Unlike some universities, Imperial College provides ICT support centrally (departments don't run their own email, file servers, webservers etc) Desktop support is all part of the same department but is based in buildings across campus. These teams are known as "Faculty Support"; there are 10 such teams and this post is to manage one of the teams (it's vacant following an internal promotion)

It's a massively varied job because the 21,000 people here use computers in a massive variety of ways.

If you want more information about the post then feel free to email me ([email protected]) but please don't send me your CV - I'm not involved in the recruitment process and you must complete the form on the website.

I should also say that I'm one of the 10 site managers; I've now been here for over 5 years and there's still lots of stuff for me to learn which always makes a job feel like a good one!

*sigh* If I hadn't just bought a house I'd be all over this!! Er... can I work from home in Cardiff? :)

We do have a senior member of staff living in Cornwall; he works from home sometimes and stays in London for a few days a week. Sadly, this is a job where you need to be on-site pretty much every day :-)

I guess I'll have to wait for his job to come up ;)

Cheers!

I'd only do it if the Holland Club was still open... is it still open..?

Holland Club closed in December 2012; it's been replaced by the ħ (https://www.imperialcollegeunion.org/food-drink/h-bar) (the name, of course, is a scientist "joke". The "ħ" symbol is pronounced "H bar" and represents the Planck constant divided by 2π

One of the many good things about working in a University is that you have a range of bars on-site :-)

If only I was good at IT.... :p

You're better than an awful lot of the people here (and the really exciting thing is that our maintenance teams are colour coded and I work in a building supported by the Purple team [although I don't think they're as good as the Orange team. Team Purple still hasn't fixed the broken shower I reported 10 days ago!])

@Little-Miss sounds like you need to go work for the Purple team :D
