Buy a new small box or wack it on the DC?

Be serving 150-200 PCs / laptops

If a new box what rough specs?

Not had WSUS before due to multi-site low WAN speed - but upgrading the WAN infrastructure so it will be able to cope.

Cheers

long as you have hard disk space its a minimal drain i wouldn't spec up a box for it a vm possibly but even thats probably overkill imo

My opinions...

NEVER on a DC. Plus it requires obviously an MSSQL backend (or the Windows Internal DB). MSSQL in my experience, at least for WSUS, can become a memory hog.

+1 we have it on a old server (well most of our servers are old) along side WDS/MDT, it only has 4gb memory and starts to crawl when pushing out updates, all due to sql memory requirements. You also want it on a fast network connection.
