Maybe. But I can't code anything exceptional (about the most I've done is a file that gets the content of 2 pages (Who's clocked in and where fobs were used last), strips all the html tags out, then compares who's in with last used, spitting out a list created from all names that appear on both sheets (because the clocked-in sheet only has IN (or, by deduction, NOT IN), but doesn't tell us WHERE they last were.)

It's automatically kicked out in the event of a fire alarm. But it feels kinda cludgy.

 

My 'Whodunnit?' script is written in Powershell 2.0 because Get-WinEvent doesn't work in Powershell 3.0 (there are rumours it does work if your locale is en-US but I can't figure out how to code that the script should use a different locale - Powershell 4.0 has this option, but not 3.0)

 

But given that haven't explained their judging procedure (Random selection/Names-out-of-a-hat? Popularity contest Peer review and vote? Panel of judges?) I dunno if I will or not. I don't really have anything special or new to bring to the table. Given that I can't even get this error handling/.ToString("00") working, I doubt I'm in with a chance.

I actually quite like the colour, don't have any personal experience with RM so can't comment. Though I have heard a lot of bad feedback from other IT Proffessionals about them which puts me off. I think EduGeek is great wouldn't be where I am now if it wasn't for this website and the community, learnt so much being on here. I appreciate all of the help and it's free so I don't care change the colour to bright orange text with a yellow background. I'd still come on this site, just gutted I couldn't meet @ZeroHour, @Dos-Box at Bett, as I wanted to thank them There's always next year!

I'd be so tempted to enter if it didn't have to be PowerShell. I've got a funky batch script (which does include some PS) running weekly that exports all form and set lists from SIMS and imports them as distribution groups in AD/Exchange.

So long as you write a PowerShell script to call the script, I think you can enter it (seems like a stoopid rule to me but hey-ho):

 

How do I enter?

Create a script in Powershell 3.0 (or at least Powershell wrapped for wsh/vbs scripters) that fits into at least one of the categories above

Zip the script using your EduGeek username as the file name (e.g. JoeBloggs.zip)

Did think about that, but worried it would be seen as "too blatant"...

 

Also, it's set up to work with our OUs and the fact that we have one form per House, per year etc. So if the rules will allow for custom scripts on the understanding that they could be genericised to work in different environments, I guess that would work.

Well the ones I posted up they can feel free to tweak as they're genericised so they can be used for any network really. I dont mind that, but I wont be posting up my more intricate and can't live without ones

I might inbox them and ask how the 'winners' are selected though. Random selection would be unfair given you can submit anything you like, so I'm guessing it's somebody (or somebodies) reviewing the code that's put up. But clarification would be nice

no it wasnt that, restrictions here have made it horrible to move/edit/alter our powershell files (a legacy setting we can't locate thanks to the old NM), so wanted to know if it was ok just posting the code

Powershell scripts are just plain text documents, what's stopping you saving them as scripts as requested? If you can edit text documents, you can edit powershell scripts...

Because our previous NM locked down the PS1 extention so we can only create new ones. Otherwise they all show up as protected. We can't figure out how he did it so on our new server build we will be adding gpos in batches to see which set did this. Then narrow down from there.

You could create a PowerShell script to undo or workaround that restriction?

I always think having skin options on a forum is quite fun. Personally I like the Blue because I find it easier on the eyes. Individually I think the RM colours are fine, it is the high contrast of the bright and dark that I think makes people's eyes go squiffy - if the theme replaced the blue with the mint green it'd be like the cool purple Bett one. Personally I find any high contrast themes difficult to look at and that is not limited to forums but to websites and even windows itself. On the flip side, there are people out there that really need the high contrast and find bright text on dark backgrounds easier to read (IIRC some dyslexics prefer this?). Having the option to change this and select a theme of your choice gives most people an option that works for them. Forums like this can only continue to run and to be the resource that they are through donations, subscriptions or sponsorship. Clicking a little button to change the theme is a small price to pay for free access to such an extensive resource.
