Keyboard Language change between English and french quickly

Hi I have had a request from a french teacher so the students can input accents on letters quickly without using ALT codes to put the accents in. She found this software, does anyone know anything similar that's preferably free?

Pressing ALT GR+ letter adds upstrokes to the vowels

Also you can make shortcuts on the keyboard (say CTRL+ALT+1 for ç for example)

If you have the languages set up in Windows, Left Alt + Left Shift switches between the keyboard layouts. Only problem is you need to know the French layout, or have French keyboards available in the first place...

 

Did not know about Alt-Gr + letter - though I did know that Ctrl + Alt + Vowel does the same

Have you tried Left-Alt and shift? (you have to have multiple languages enabled to swtich between them)

That's kinda a given. But with that said there is nothing to stop you having two USB keyboards plugged in and Left Alt + Shift when you pick up the alternaitve one. We do that all the time with Primary and Assisted Access devices.

After posting about AZERTY keyboards on my blog I was tipped off by a Belgian reader that keyboards in the Netherlands are still QWERTY but have all the accents on. So you could enable the Dutch (Netherlands) keyboard layout and either get some of the keyboards (£3.89 each from this Amazon seller) or print out the layout for reference. A few of the punctuation keys are different but they've worked very well for our languages department. Edited February 4, 2014 by AngryTechnician

Try this and is free I have it installed for our language teachers just need to press F8 and key once installed to provide accents etc its called AXkey AX Trusted Freeware download and reviews - SnapFiles.com actually quite a few useful bits of software on Snapfiles.

Thinking about this again, I think the most elegant solution would be to use one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/HannsG-HT231HPB-Widescreen-Touchscreen-Monitor/dp/B00FMB15TC. and use the screen keyboard for the tablet tools. Then when you switch layout the keyboard changes too.

 

I swear this monitor is gorgeous! It's big enough to give you a full size keyboard and it can be easily tilted almost flat for a good typing position. We bought one of these monitors and I think we'll need 100 more before summer everyone who sees it wants one. If you put In portrait mode you would get a better monitor aspect ratio and still get a laptop sized keyboard.

Great tool. I've been using Easytype French Accents for about 3 months. Works only on Windows though. No Mac. The free version is http://www.typefrench.org/ It has all the functionalities of the paid software but it's an online keyboard and cannot be installed. I still find it useful when I'm on the road and use a public computer and need to send a quick email in French.

Hi, we have bought the actual Spanish keyboards but GPO is only allowing ENG. How would i set the GPO to allow to switch between keyboard languages? when tested, each user has to install the keyboard language but students cant do this as control panel is disabled.

any ideas?
