fairm010 Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Hi Nick, After reading this thread a good point has been raised http://www.edugeek.net/forums/cloud-services/131089-am-i-being-irrational-old-fashioned-here-2.html#post1120538 Using HAP a user has to download the document ans then re upload, which is perfectly fine by us as staff are only permitted to use HAP on school hardware. My question is, are you able to implement a system whereby the user downloads the file, makes changes then upon closing the file its re-uploaded and deleted from the machine? Thoughts.. Matt
nickbro Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I'll look into it, but can't promise anything, maybe a secure download client that people install and it downloads the file, monitors for the file changing, then asks if they are done, once they go yes, it deletes the file from temp storage. But what is to stop staff from going File > Save As?
fairm010 Posted January 31, 2014 Author Posted January 31, 2014 I can't speak for others but our staff are very good at doing what they're taught, so if I tell them to just save they'll do that.
nickbro Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Ok, I think I may have something, I've made a program, that you download, it will register a protocol on the PC, hap://somereallylongencryptedstring HAP:// runs the app and downloads the file to %temp%, it then waits for the file to be closed (i.e. word closed) and then reuploads the file and deletes the local copy.
nickbro Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Don't say that yet, I'll upload a video of what it will look like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzDbd3WeEwY
fairm010 Posted January 31, 2014 Author Posted January 31, 2014 Just watched through the video.. Im a bit confused, where you copied and pasted the string into the bar, why did you do that? And will staff have to do that? Also, sorry for interupting the video!
nickbro Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Sorry, I did mention it in the video, because I'm not sure if I want to put it into the v10 release I generated the string manually, if it does make it into a release it would be generated by an edit link in my files.
fairm010 Posted January 31, 2014 Author Posted January 31, 2014 Ah I get it now! OK, hope that makes it in!
Paul-K Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 +1 Secure Edit I think the secure edit feature looks like a good addition to HAP+, I think my staff would love it. Fantastic idea @nickbro.
nickbro Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 It's in as part of the v10 preview release, you can download the client from DirectEdit - nb development
Paul-K Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 @nickbro Thumbs up Nick, your always one step ahead. However, the download link doesn't seem to work for the DirectEdit downloader, also would it be available in msi format so it could be deployed, no worries if not just thought I'd check that one.
Paul-K Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Thanks Nick That's perfect and much appreciated as always. I will test later this week once I have setup my version 10 test site.
