Thanks for the help removing the gateway seems to have sorted that problem out, although like some how said other problems could arise.

 

But i guess there is still a flaw in our system somewhere, as some people have said setting the gateway to look towards the proxy.

internet is still working fine, but now the smt couldnt get on to the internet, but this was due to them bypassing the cachepilot to access the internet freely, when i asked why they did this, they said so they could get onto blocked sites.

 

we let them access the proxy settings as they are allowed to access the internet at home and need to turn the proxy off, i dont think they should be allowed internet access at home.

Opinions on that differ greatly.

 

Personally I think they should, but they use a seperate user account which is local to the laptop for home use.

 

They cannot log onto their network id unless in school.

I can understand the point of view they need to work from home and the such, but what i dont get is why get internet access in your home when you dont have a computer. surely you would own a computer first then get internet access.

 

We use the offline files system to allow staff to sync the documents and then use it at home.

I'm just about to plug this security hole in our network, does everyone change their DHCP settings gateway to their proxies(cachepilot in our case) instead of their main routers?

 

It's funny how I was offering advice then found we have a very similar problem as well!

we just removed the gateway altogether, but we have found that admin staff who use outlook without the gateway they email does not work.

 

So we are going to set up many scopes and a superscope, so that curriculum machines will not have the gateway and admin machines and other machines will do.

 

dont know if this is the best way to go but it will prob solve those problems.

 

i dont know about setting gateway to cachepilot address not sure if it works that way. test see and if you find anything let us know.
