Being an explorer of the Internet, I can confirm Zombie-esque creatures are real.

There's a fungus that takes over the brains of ants. [it's the origin of the Pokemon Parasect and the inspiration for "The Last of Us"]

The results are in! You'd survive for

a day

after the apocalypse.

Let's be honest: you're cut out for city life.

You're basically the women who weed herself in Threads.

Seems I am not destined to last more than a day, but what a day it will be!! ...if it saves me living on the unwanted lentils and bovril in the cupboard for 40 odd years then I will take it!

God, if that happened around here there'd be a massive jump in IQ's!

It's wired for self-preservation. So, definitely an improvement for some people I've met.

TBF, if it's actually-dead-zombies it's not hard to survive indefinitely.

Just go somewhere cold. They have no body heat, so they'd freeze solid.

Also, there'd still be internet. And power... some [city/county/country powering] generators can run for years without human intervention. [i think...] I saw it on a documentary about what would happen if people just disappeared.

You've met the local wildlife then?

Visit Norfolk...The land of Zombies. We've got the beautiful North Norfolk Coast, Stunning Norfolk Broads, 6-fingers on each hand, and the survival reflexes of lemmings ("Oh, No!").

Sod that! I'd sooner be eaten alive by Zombies.

I'm always fascinated by the slightly different ways Zombies work in different books. There is a book where they DO go north because the Zombies either freeze or get very much slower - can't think what it is called - but the downside is that keeping healthy and warm, and catching food is so much more difficult.

Some books even have us living reasonably happily with the zombies - Mira Grant's trilogy is very good.

Some stories have humanity absolutely at odds with itself with groups fighting each other AND the zombies.

I love a good zombie book

My female friends think I am weird....

Do you know that there are people in the world that actually believe that there could be a zombie apocalypse?! Stupid people.

Hang on, I went to Luton last week and it figures.....

I am not convinced that a Zombie-esque plague is not a possibility - after all parasites that control insects have been around for a long time and parasites that affect the human brain are myriad - Toxoplasmosis for example... I don't for a second imagine that we'll all be running from the undead and rotting, ambulatory corpses, but The Black Death was fairly apocalyptic so it is not a great stretch of reasoning to see that we may have an episode of an out of control parasite/infection that devastates our population.
