TomDrummer Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Boss has asked me to take a look at her laptop because she can't open PDF files at home. She can get them fine at work, but they just aren't playing nice when she's not here. We have proxy settings for the school WiFi, but she knows to disable them when she's not in. She's got Adobe Reader X, too. It might just be me missing something obvious, but any help would be greatly appreciated! Cheers, Tom.
HarryMonkey Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 We had this problem on our CC4 network, when a teacher took their laptop home they couldn't open pdf docs. It turns out that Acrobat reader needs the folder that it puts into your roaming profile. If that isn't synced using offline files then it won't work. I'm not sure if you have a vanilla network or even if the problem is the same but it might give you a starting point. We have put fox-it on for them to use at home. Far easier and it just works. 1
BFCIT Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 We also have this issue and are running an RM CC4 network in school. We use the same fix as HarryMonkey describes, install Fox-it on the local machine (had no complaints since) and it is free software for PDF viewing. Just be cautious when installing this as I recall it being coupled with other software that you have to tick 'no' to during the install process.

hongdi Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 there are 3 ways to open a file 1 start adobe acrobat reader, choose file, open 2 double click a file 3 right click a file and choose Open With you need to try 1 or 3. also be aware many system by default do not show the File Extension ie the ".pdf" bit, so potentially you could be double clicking a ".somethingelse" file Boss has asked me to take a look at her laptop because she can't open PDF files at home.
