Just had an email sent to the general school admin site promoting http://www.icttechnician.com. is it me or do two sites dedicated to the exact same topic seem pointless?

During the summer 2 Scottish school techs spammed a load of high level mail accounts about a site, which to be frank wasn't very good (just a PhP BB) for school techies. I think this may be the same people.

Anyhow, their forum is increadably slow and isn't loading very fast and only gets used twice a day (or thereabouts).

Possibly. It may let them know about where all of their potential users have been lurking. Besides, what do I say? 'Hi, we're EduGeek and have been your more successful competitor for the past 6 months, which may explain why your forum is empty'?

I do get the impression that it is a techy site for schools run by teachers for teachers.

i think best thing for us is to carry on and if they going going to them if we are no problem.

 

Two sites is not bad thing only if we start fighting with each other then it becomes bad thing as it dsont help ict support community as whole.

I remember hearing about this site a while back but I certainly wouldn't have been recommending it. I followed it for about a week to see if anything useful was posted, but they seemed to get as many posts in a week as we do in a morning.

Competition is always a good thing. Drives you to create the best online community for educational professionals that there is. Personally I think Edugeek is the best. Look how fast its grown in only 6 months.

There will never be only one place for answers ... the more the merrier as long as you don't get site wars.

 

I doubt it will go quite the way uk.education.schools-it did ... but there is nothing wrong with sharing best practice.

Kudos (once again) to the forum admins on here that have given us a fantastic resource to come to and draw from when we need to. The difference between the sites isn't necessarily on a technical level (though the quality of technical help on here is far superior in my opinion)- no- the difference is in the sense of community found on here. You don't often get that on forums like this.
