Gibson335 Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 I was wondering how many people used the Windows sleep facility via GP across their network, and if so whether they had encountered problems with either or both Windows Updates applying during sleep or Impero preventing sleep. I'm not talking about using a third-party piece of software, just specifically the GP. I ask because I have heard both of these mentioned as potential issues, and I wanted to check on here before taking anything further. Cheers.

AngryTechnician Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 All our machines go to sleep on a timer set via GP. They wake up again to install Windows Update during the night and then sleep again on the same timer afterwards. No issues with any of our workstations (mostly Dell running Windows 7, with a small number of Lenovo). Don't use Impero so can't speak to that. 1

Impero works fine with sleep, but when the PC is sleeping impero stops processing scheduled tasks. We have students who have figured this out and will put a PC to sleep to prevent a scheduled force log out... 1
Cache Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Ours go to sleep, but not enforced through Group Policy, just the standard Windows Power settings. I have noticed recently that a few haven't been going to sleep which has been caused by having Office documents open but I've not investigated that fully yet.... 1

Our only real scheduled tasks have to do with logging off and booting pcs. If a student puts it to sleep, well he can't use it.... Thereby losing any advantage to blocking it. Trust me, there are far bigger issues with Impero that students have found. I'll pm you a nice one (that I reported already) if you want to try it.

Start a log off with a timer. Right click and hold in the title bar of the timer. Watch timer freeze and be useless. Just one of many exploits I have found with the system.

MordyT Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 That's great to know. I would like to mention some bugs that were fixed in v4 so I don't seem too negative. Like when a PC goes to sleep and there is let's say a log off timer scheduled and you put the PC to sleep... In v3.5 once it woke up, you were clear. In v4, once it wakes up, it then proceeds to follow that action.

Great. Could you perhaps take a look at the print issue I pmed you about? If you could fix that, I would be more then happy to renew support. Sorry, but that bug has been around for over a year now...
ImperoDev Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 I've added your list of issues into our work flow so they'll be looked for the v4.2.0 release. I was positive that the printing issue you reported had been fixed. I spent a week fixing and testing it and couldn't get it to fail. I'll go back, retest and fix it again if it's still broke. Could be a source control mistake on my part If so, I'll try and get it into the v4.1.0 release that is due out soon. Rich 1
