The resort management have had a WiFi system installed that has a number of APs that are linked by radio. I don't know the manufacture but there's a AP on a big pole on top of our house. When I connect I get a 56Mbps link but as soon as I start any downloads, it drops right off as far as 1Mbps. I'm probably the only person online at present, so it can't be overloaded. I've discussed it with the management but they don't seem to understand the problem.

Can anyone suggest what might be going on please?

Once you're connected at 56Mbps, could you perform a speed test? If the results are still the same, try updating your wireless driver. Failing that, the fault is most likely to do with the wireless system set up.

As soon as I start the test the wifi speed drops from 54 down to 5 or less. The test comes back at between 1 and 2 Mbps.

The good new, I've been for a long walk in bright sunshine in t-shirt and shorts. Going to sit on the patio with a coffee and a book :)
