Panic buying!

Whilst I can appreciate that not everyone can get to the shops to get Christmas things in time, it seems rater mad this year in particular with supermarkets rammed full for the past 3 days! Yesterday I popped into the local Asda to pick up some catfood and it was already at capacity 15 mins before the tills opened!

On the way in to work this morning it was bedlam with most roads going into town full and I only have sprouts and carrots left to get.

One day I'll take Shaun's advice and get back to doing my groceries online!

I was in Aldi on Saturday and a bloke had a big shopping trolley full of chickens. The cashier told me he had a butcher's shop and it was the second time that day that he had been in. All very well until the little old dear goes in to treat herself to a small chicken and there are none left.

I am a fan of internet shopping for the main supermarket shop. All delivered on Saturday morning. I shall be down to my local butcher at 6.45am (so I can park) tomorrow morning to pick up the meat that I ordered and will pop over to our tiny co-op toget another bottle of milk. All done

I popped in to Asda this morning to get some more snacks (we have enough to feed the world, but, you never know)and some milk and it was ramping up in business at 8.15pm. I have just been into the village to go to the library and pick up some cheese (yuck) and in fact the Tescos Express and small Budgens aren't that busy - I think everyone shopped this morning. The weather outside is frightful ( ) and I think everyone has had enough!

Me and the wife were up at 7am on Sat. Thought 'Sod it...Supermarket'. Got to Sainsburys at 7:30am and the car pack was 3/4 full and the store already had tanoy announcements for extra staff to the checkouts!

Must get to the supermarket fast. Buy plenty of animal food... must stock up the Ark.

Right... If this is just for Xmas... have we not learnt to buy a good few days prior.. or get delivered!

 

If this is added to because of the storm.... my god it isn't exactly the Philippines Tsunami...

I remember earlier in the year how rammed it was for easter weekend... I mean the shop was closed Sunday ONLY it was even open the Friday and Monday (Sunday hours)... It was like a scene from a zombie film... on not just because it was chavvy Portsmouth!

The most important thing was bought ages ago... sprouts. Been on the boil since Jan 2nd.

Blimey. I've been into the supermarket every day for the past three and it's been no busier than a normal Saturday afternoon. This morning I walked straight up to a checkout - didn't even have to queue. Not bought anything for Christmas dinner as the builders have our kitchen in bits.

Just went to asda to pick up a few bits (milk, bread, cat food). Took us an half hour to get there, and then half hour at the tills.

 

I put money at the butchers for meat/veg etc which will be delivered tomorrow morning. Do the same every year.

 

I couldnt believe how long the queues were in asda....stretched back to the central aisle in most of the lanes...was crazy!

Have to get the essentials. It is the end of the world after all!

 

Just think back to snow days when everyone panic buys everything they can... For what is ALWAYS 2 days max of disruption... don't we all go for a week without shopping?!!!

Its very strange - I could just about understand it years ago when all the shops really shut down for several days - but now its one day and a lot of smaller shops are open on Christmas Day itself

Left work, no traffic. Got to Asda, parked in seconds. A bit of a wait in the queue, off to Morrisons, less of a queue. Just pickled shallots to find and some wheat free bread flour.

I don't think they will be ready by tomorrow.

 

I usually do though. Unfortunately there has been too much on these last few months. I did make my own Xmas cakes and puddings. Wheat & gluten free. We might even get the tree up tonight.
