It depends on how serious you are about the reason for the survey and the information you need to collect.

 

If you start with asking those questions first then decide on the survey software to meet your needs. If you need a proper survey done then you should call someone in who is trained and knows how to use survey software.

As Neil says above, I will also add I used to do wi-fi surveys when I ran my own company, thing is the hardware in most laptops is very rarely the best solution to do wireless surveys with. Also getting the software to suite the OS in this case is a little like the tail wagging the dog! wi-spy kit is one that I used and fluke AirMagnet as well.

I conduct wireless surveys at the moment

 

The equipment and software is very expensive if you want to get it done properly. as the other guys said it depends how deep you want to go into your wireless network, the best software will show you all sorts of information across the site.

 

I don't know your experience is this area but interpreting the results can also be tricky if you are unsure of what you are looking for.
