Essentially the routed switch (The switch with the IP addresses for each VLAN) will respond to the ARP requests, the data will be sent to the virtual interface with in that switch for the VLAN, this switch will then send out another ARP request on the subnet it is trying to reach, when it receives the response the data is tagged on the new VLAN and sent out the correct physical interface towards the receiving device. The reason you use VLAN's is to reduce the size of the of the broadcast domains
  2. What is your full DCHP scope? Is your address range 172.10.0.xx/24 or whatever the subnet needs to be for the amount of address you need Personally I would have 172.10.0.1 as my Default gateway and then start the client addresses at 172.10.0.20, just seems logical and you have some space for extra things you may need on that range
  3. Most the of the ruckus access points can handle 30 concurrent connections on each radio so I am glad to see you have reduced the amount of devices connecting to it. What are the devices you are connecting trying to do? if they are data intensive this will cause a contention ratio. each device wants air time to transmit, the more devices the less air time available for transmissions and more collisions occur (wasted air time) In terms of your co channel interference, I would begin with seeing what channel each access point is on. use 1/6/11 make sure two access points on the same channel are not next to each other, if possible make sure no two access points that are on the same channel area accessible from one location. In terms of the power used it totally depends on your environment, I would recommend leaving it on default.

I conduct wireless surveys at the moment The equipment and software is very expensive if you want to get it done properly. as the other guys said it depends how deep you want to go into your wireless network, the best software will show you all sorts of information across the site. I don't know your experience is this area but interpreting the results can also be tricky if you are unsure of what you are looking for. What is your current wireless system?
