This approach allows for additional MIS functionality, such as pushing reports to individual schools within the cluster, managing system settings/users accounts/learner records e.t.c without the constant logging in and out of each school, plus the ability to report on all the data within each school without the need for 3rd party interfaces to name a few. If it helps, here's an example of a cluster dashboard. Yes, but this isn't the scenario that the OP is talking about. This is 3 separate schools on paper but in reality, they are all mixed together. So can Progresso mix students and staff from the individual schools together and handle the timetable for that? Can it report on those classes of mixed students for attendance and assessment, behaviour etc. And at the same time unpick all that data to tie it back together for the individual establishments when it comes to the Census and other necessary reporting?
GREED Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 It would be nice to confirm too to the market one point that is going round: is Progresso one central database for all schools (as in all your customers whether connected or not), or is it an installation per organisation (individual school or trust of schools)?

Dawbs Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 This looks really interesting Progresso Geek. Is this cluster functionality standard in Progresso and how easy was it to create a cluster dashboard? Do you need extensive SSRS skills or could you do it with the Level 1 & 2 training?

Hello Dawbs, There are pre-made cluster widgets already available for use at cluster level, and further system widgets from the support website. These can be uploaded and shared to any of the schools within the cluster. You can also create extra widgets (either based on existing ones or from scratch). Level 1 & 2 SSRS training should be sufficient to create or reinvent existing reports to tailor for your needs. To see a cluster widget taster have a look at my blog located within my signature. wat4rd Posted March 11, 2016 Author Posted March 11, 2016 BUMP! - So I totally forgot I posted this. We've been slowly plodding along with 3 separate MIS's which is a problem to say the least. Just wondering if there's been any developments anyone is aware of? Any new MIS's or added cluster functionality on any? I'm going to investigate Progresso, but not sure it will be a viable option for us.

We support a special school who is contracted by the LA to run the PRU. As such they have 2 separate DfE numbers but are run as 1 establishment (shared buildings, staff, kids who sometimes move registration from the PRU to special or vica verca). Like a few others here they tried SIMS PX but ditched it 2 terms in to the process. Instead a few years ago they opted to maintain 3 SIMS databases. The combined database all staff have access to and their VLE is plugged in to it and they do almost everything from this database. The other 2 are basically ghost databases who's only purpose is to do a census return for the 2 DfE numbers at the required points in time. The 2 ghost DBs are looked after by 2 admin staff and all they do is every week is CTF in new students to the appropriate DB and make leavers leave from them as well, and the only thing we couldn't transfer in any other way, was exclusions so they are manually added weekly. Then just before a census all appropriate pupils for each DB are CTF'ed in to update their details and a report is run on the combined DB to give the attendance that needs feeding in to census, then other than the usual data cleaning that goes on during census they are largely done. There is a little more to it than that but the school find it by far the easiest option (by a long way compared with maintaining 2 DBs and educating staff which one to put data in) Then on the combined DB they use the house system to identify which school the pupils legally belong to. djrscally Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 I think Progresso's cluster functionality won't work as they're wanting here (if I'm understanding their requirements properly); it's basically a way to let MAT level staff see everything they need without having to set them up individually in each school's database, but it's still designed to work with a) A Trust and b) schools that are actually separate schools as well as legally separate schools. So for example, you can't set up a class containing Students from multiple schools to take attendance, or schedule into the timetable (at least to my knowledge).
Bromcom_Jay Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 (edited) I'd investigate everything that is out there now - Even though you are not officially a MAT it sounds like you want similar analysis and reporting abilities. At Bett a whole load of suppliers either had a MAT/LA dashboard analysis style system, some were generic, some were for specific MIS suppliers or a way of just looking at everything with a single sign on style set up. It could be worth contacting a local MAT to yourselves to see if they have a solution or if any MATs on edugeek have something. Good luck with the search! Edited February 17, 2017 by elsiegee40
