Hallo everyone.

right now we are using Ab tutor 6 on the school where I work. It's a nice program and the teachers are using it without any problems.

Version 6 is getting old so we are thinking about updating to version 7 or move to Netsupport school.

I have heard alot about netsupport school, and I used the trail version to get a better picture of the program.

Netsupport school looks more userfriendly for the teachers, but is also expensive compared with Ab tutor.

What is your opinion about these two?

And which one do you prefer?

Both will do the majority of what you need and both work well.

Compare the features.

Compare the costs. (AB Tutor has historically been much better priced but I haven't compared recently.)

Weight it all up.

We recently switched the other way, mostly to save money, but it seems to work better for us. We were on quite an old version of NetSupport though.

If it's not broken, don't fix it.

We use the latest version of AB Tutor version 7 (7.2.6 if memory serves).

Whilst AB is still fairly cheap, we have several problems with AB and their support has been poor. We have used AB since version 3 and whilst 7 has some nice features, we don't think its as stable as version 6. It seems to have a lot of quirks such as failing to connect to pcs first time etc.

AB have also been bought out by a different firm and Andy Bray (the founder) appears to have left. This unfortunately seems to have led to a relaxation of their quality control. They have got better but it's still not as good as it used to be. And as for their 'tech support' it's non existent.

AB is still not a bad program considering the cost of it, and it is getting better, but in hindsight, I think we would have stuck with version 6 if we could have done.

I have been busy with comparing the features of both programms, and noticed that they almost got the same features.

But I noticed that netsupport school looks way more userfriendly, and features like blocking websites works much better on netsupport school.

I heard Ab tutor 7 got a better look and mac support, but I havn't heard about new features.

Did they add something new, or is it just a new look?

We do have an issue sometimes with AB Tutor when teachers lock a PC then go home for the evening. As we have a shutdown app installed for power management this can cause PC's to become locked out when switched back on which means we have to visit the IT suite to fix it. Version 7 is much more stable than Version 6 and although I prefer NetSupport if cost is the overriding issue then AB Tutor is handy for a sixth form college and classroom management. That said, NetSupport is in next years budget as the Tech Console is really handy for management of student PC's.

I'm also looking for some monitoring program, especially since we're starting to do more and more digital exams. I was looking for Abtutor and NetSupport, also take suggestions. I don't have anything at the moment, been using vnc off and on what creaps the kids out just enough.
