DUAL MONITORS - Swap "identity 1" with "Identity 2" ?

Hi,

 

We have some machines with dual screens setup. One the teacher uses connected to the projector that they use to display to students and another monitor that they would leave their personal data, emails, registration on.

 

The problem is with the "Smart Whiteboard software", when teachers write on the board it will only write on to the monitor with "Identity 1"

 

I know this would usually be as simple as swapping over the VGA leads, but in this case we cant as it uses a VGA and a displayport.

 

In XP you could uninstall the monitors from device manager, delete the registry entries, plug in the monitor you want as monitor 1 and reboot, the other would then be monitor 2. But Windows 7 appears to want to always want the displayport as Identity one. (info here: http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=657768)

 

Any ideas please?

Hi Ben.

It doesn't seem to matter. It just always draws on the monitor that is identity 1.

Very annoying.

When you run the SmartBoard calibration, which screen does it come up on? Does it calibrate correctly?

Hi.

Calibration comes up on the correct screen and it calibrates fine. But any writing appears as a pen mark on monitor 1. Not on the projected screen.

To swap 1 and 2 round just open the screen resolution box and drag the 1 and 2 boxes around, you can reorder or change the location of the swap point between the monitors

I wish it was that simple Jamo. "Identity 1" monitor still stays as 1 but now its on the right instead of the left. Everything but the smart board software realises this and the writing always goes to the monitors labeled as identity 1 where ever it is placed.

And that is even if you select the "this is my primary monitor" tickbox?

If we're actually talking about SMART™ Boards here (rather than 'smart board' as a generic term), the software should be able to do this correctly. We have pretty much the same setup here and it works. Are you running the latest version?

I hope we missed a setting somewhere. Not found it yet. We are running 2011sp2 I believe. Not quite the latest. Previously we've managed to swap the VGA cables so the projector is always identity 1. In this case we can't as these have a display port that is always 1.

 

Worth me calling SMART instead then i reckon. Thanks for the help.

Does changing the main display setting help?

 

On my displays if you right click desktop, go in to the Screen resolution option menu you should see the 2 screens. Select display 2 and a tick box will appear below all the drop down boxes saying "Make this my main Display". Apply and test.

try powering the pc up with JUST the monitor you want to be monitor one plugged into the graphics output(s) boot into windows so it knows that screen as screen 1 then turn off and reinsert monitor 2

What machine is it, can you change graphic settings in BIOS?

On our SMART boards just click the two buttons on the pentray and tap the spacebar to send the smartboard s/w to monitor #2. It did cause major confusion here until we cottoned onto this!

What happens if you turn off SMART Ink\Ink Layer?

 

I would also check that the board firmware and the software are up to date. Whenever we start running into wonky issues like this, that's usually one of the first things we do.

Both button on the IWB and space bar swapped over the screen as suggested above.
