[sims] Web Reporting (writing & providing to parents) & Assessment that syncs with SIMS

I'll probably regret this but...

 

We are in the market for a web-based system that:

 

Writes back to the SIMS database in a manner such that standard SIMS .Net components can access and use the data (no creating your own tables and storing the info there).

 

Provides a parental portal where they can pick up reports and also a general idea of how their kid is doing.

 

Allows teachers to write reports that feed back into SIMS for generation/storage and collation (i.e a copy of the report is automatically saved as a linked document against the kid in SIMS). Writing back to assessment manager marksheets is acceptable, but this must be flexible.

 

Autosaves said reports and marksheets (for example - like Office365 and Google Docs will autosave).

 

Provides usage metrics - X % of group Y accessed Z in the last month.

 

Honours SIMS permissions regarding access to data.

 

Isn't SLG.

 

So what are you using that can do the above with the least amount of WTF?

Have you had a look at Go4Schools? Pulls data from SIMS, but doesn't write back (no need to). Drop SIMS for everything and anything to do with assessment and online reporting. Best move we ever made!

Have you looked at what TASC software can offer you?

They are the número uno top notch premier technical partner.

They receive really good reviews here and have a great record for service and response to feature requests.

As Vikpaw has mentioned Tasc Software and Insight does this and gives Students, Parents and Students access to the things you are looking for also as Vikpaw has mentioned their support is excellent. Lodeheathschool - YouTube really quick look.

 

Is also easy to use for end users, easy to setup and configure and works seamlessly.

I endorse TASC as well. INSIGHT is simple to set up and highly configurable.

We have used Tasc products (PARS) in the past and liked them. The last time I talked to them, they didn't offer the means to write assessments using Insight. Most of our report-writing is done from home online and it's heavily used.

 

I do need to chase them to see what's changed though.

I think you'd use Pars to write teh reports and insight to make them available to parents.
