cool tip, I'd never thought to check. I guess you could nab a xtal from any usb device if you're desperate.

 

I gotta dig out my oscilloscope and check xtals in the future! (I have an ooooold 20MHz osc I got of ebay 5 years ago

 

Now, I just need a dead stick.
