The Role

The Head of Systems works with the Assistant Director, IT Development and the Head of IT Infrastructure to set the strategic direction of the University’s IT systems.

The post holder provides leadership for a group of teams which manage the design and development, procurement and deployment of the major IT systems in use at the University. The group is made up of:

 

Learning and Research Development

Student Systems Development

Admissions/SDS replacement project team

Web Development

Web Solutions

A best-of-breed approach to systems delivery means that the post holder will be responsible for a range of solutions including in-house developments, open source, commercial and cloud-based services.

 

 

The Person

You will have a passion for delivering results, with a proven track record in the strategic planning, management and provision of one or more enterprise-scale IT systems. Information Services has adapted the ITIL service management framework and the PRINCE2 project management methodology which both continue to evolve, and the Head of Systems will take part in the improvement, quality assurance and ensure the adoption of a variety of processes and tools.

 

You will have experience of Management of both staff and resources in order to plan, estimate and carry out programmes of systems development work to time, budget and quality targets and in accordance with appropriate standards.

Information Services

Information Services is comprised of four sections: Customer Support, Library Collections and IT Development together directly support almost all areas of University activity, and the Planning and Administration section supports the work of the department. JISC RSC South East is also located within the department and provides services to the JISC and wider educational community. A strong emphasis is placed on user support and all provision is targeted as closely as possible to user needs.
