techman Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 I don't know if I have posted this in the correct forum. I am looking for a solution to send and receive email from parents. We have about 500 parent email addresses in Facility CMIS. I want to be able to send group email to parents and for parents to email the school back. Teachers would also like to email individual parents. We currently use Exchange Server for our staff email. Can I set the above up in Outlook for staff or is there a better system out there that I could use? Thanks, techman
has Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Hi, Looking for the same as you. We want to have a global list of parent emails where any admin staff can access and email to.
3s-gtech Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Can you import the parents' addresses as contacts in AD, put them in security and distribution groups, then email the group address? That's how I'd do it.
nickbro Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 (edited) I created a website that we use to send emails home to parents. It also stores that email in a database so they can access it via the website if they so wish as well. We can even send to parents of individual pupils in a single class if we wish, or who are taking a specific subject. Basically I run a SIMS report that exports an XML file and that is then imported into the website. It will send emails on a 1:1 basis, so parent's cannot see any other parent's email addresses. Was fairly straight forward to make in C# If it's marked as confidential, then the parent's get an email asking them to logon to the website to read the email. Remember: Data protection, so you cannot use an email client contact group list, an exchange distribution list would be ok as it hides the email addresses. Edited November 27, 2013 by nickbro
unixman_again Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 We use YMLP which is £3 per month. We used to use our own exchange server, but it had real problems trying to send 1500+ emails and while it was doing this, we couldn't receive emails. Using ymlp greatly reduces the our bandwidth. It is very easy to use and you can customise the emails however you want. The minute cost is well worth it, especially as we do a bulk email monthly.
has Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 Cheers for the website unixman_again. Just going to try out the their demo and see how it goes. nickbro, nice system. Looking for similar to what you have.
techbarri Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Check out Teachers 2 Parents or School Administration & Management Software - ParentMail they provide solutions such as texting and emailing to parents, might not be what you are looking for but it what the schools I support are using.
