I visit a middle school once a week to look after and sort out their IT problems and one such problem that was reported to me this week was that Google Chrome will not load their school website, yet IE will load it perfectly fine. The school were insistent that they be able to use Chrome for their website due to various extensions and auto-updating capabilities. In my 'googling' to find the cause of this error, I came across an extension which emulates Internet Explorer. What I want to know is, is it possible to package/include extensions within a .MSI installer so that I could roll it out to the whole school rather than have to install it individually on every computer? If so, any tips? I know you can obtain basic Chrome MSIs.

p.s. apologies if I have got this in the wrong section! Feel free to move it to a more relevant place, if there is one!

You can push out extensions with the chrome gpo templates, I've done this with adblock and a few others

I can't get adblock to install properly...

See the link above it details how to push out extenstions via GPO.

I've done that.

I just can't get it to stop running the firstrun page. What's the point of installing adblock if the firstrun lets people disable it?

It's all in there I set the GPO to the following as I just wanted it to show our home page and not the startup page with google docs etc.

Configure the home page URL Enable

Use New tab as homepage Disabled.

Startuppages:

Action on startup enable show LIST of URLS

URLS to open on startup enabled.

It doesn't install unless the firstrun page opens. I've loaded a test account where it's supposed to be installed, and it isn't there unless I add it manually... which I can't do because standard users aren't allowed to add extensions.

Ahhh I see, we redirected all chrome data so the users could install Extenstions but we whitelisted the ones that we wanted to restrict users from install extensions that we do not want.

You can also lock extensions so users cannot turn off and uninstall.
