Office 03 Service Packs for CC3

It's my first post here, so hi to everyone.

 

We're running a CC3 network here with Office 03, no service packs. I'd like to update that so we're running SP2 at least. I'm wondering if there's an RM package available, tech support and sales drew a blank and so it seems I'll have to build a package myself. Has anyone got a package from RM at all?

Can you not use WSUS on RM CC3?

I'll have to investigate that possibility. I've only just joined the school so I'm still learning what systems we have in place.

There's also quite a few people on here who use CC3, so chances are they can tell you if it's 'safe' to use WSUS3 on a CC3 network.

Well I checked and we're not using WSUS. Our only centralised patches are via RM's service packs, the rest are installed by running windows update on each and every client pc - it's not really ideal. Looks like I'll build a package myself in the meantime since we won't be rolling out WSUS until October half-term, at least. Thanks for the quick replies by the way, much appreciated.

No, I don't believe it is safe or recommended to use WSUS on a CC3 network. Windows Update on client PCs is also not advised.

I don't see the problem with that really. We've never had any problems that way. We patch what we need as and when required and we don't directly get any of Microsoft's update screw-ups.

 

The users and network is locked down tight enough anyway, that any delay in applying a security update isn't usually a major concern.

I believe that SP2 for office 2003 on RMCC3 is available from RM on request. Microsoft updates are done via "Hotfixes" which are downloadable from RM's site. They produce one a month, generally, and patch the servers and provide packages for allocation to the workstations.

I wish someone at RM knew that. Nobody could supply me with a download or disc, despite there being product lifecycle information for SP2 on their site.
