I've done it! It was eas, I'd avoided it before as there was a technical requirement and local hardware.

I just now added the school id code (I had to create a school g+ account and make a school site) and it did it. (swgfl removed the blocks automatically).

If any pupil goes to youtube it redirects them to my channel. Nice.

Now how to use it?

I've just set it up here also, seems to work quite nicely - about time too !!! ;)

If you want videos to be able to play that aren't necessarily for 'education' you have to add them to a play list on the School YouTube account.

ooops, this also stops the teachers ability to view all of youtube. Anyhow a quick fix is for them to use https:

is there an easy way of allowing teachers to add video to the playlist? or in someway submit a link?

errrgh! RIGHT I've allowed (http://*.youtube.com and http://*yimg.com) as per their instructions but the videos just say an error occurred, please try again later. Ideas?

This is an issue with my local isa2006 firewall.

Also I've branded and added a playlist on the administration account but when I go in as a pupil all I get is the autogenerated page and none of the branding or playlists appear?

@kearton this half worked? The video plays but poorly (plays fine bypassing my local firewall) sometime the video stops. My firewall performance logs say that it's barley doing anything? Are their any non-http ports that need opening?

Just set it up in about 5 minutes after being pointed to this thread.

Key things to note (Some on the RM page, some not):

- You must NOT have any entries in your rules list for youtube.com - both allow or deny.

- This change will affect ALL users, Students and Staff proxy users.

- There is a default set of available content and Youtube tailors search results based on what are deemed to be appropriate videos for Schools use (You don't get endless blocked messages)

Personally I think it's a good feature as long as you have the time to add additional pages to the allow lists, though an option in RM Safetynet Admin to allow normal Youtube access to Staff proxy users wouldn't go amiss.

Does anyone have a definitive guide on how to add content to YouTube Education?

I can't see anything as it is all blocked here...

I accessed it from home, created a channel, and a playlist, added some vids and all seemed well.

BUT at work I can't sign in! I get an error message from YouTube.

Does anyone know what I can do about it? I have created a "how to" for the head and I just wanted to check that my added vids are there but as I cant sign in I cant even do that.

I have done this at home but at school I am unable to sign in to the school's YouTube account - I can sign into Google fine but not YouTube - swgfl are telling me that is the case but it plainly isnt if you can do it!

I can now sign in to the school youtube account using the staff proxy and add videos to the school's playlist, but when I go off the proxy and go into youtube for edu, I cannot sign in at all. It either ignores me or gives me a redirect, page not found or sad face page.

Can anyone help?

I've got to the point where I have created a playlist etc but cannot share it so that staff can see it. Anyone got any ideas please?

*sigh

Still here - any ideas anyone. Have tried making a shortcut but it doesnt work. I have two logons it seems and one displays the fail logo and tells me that I need to enable the videos, whilst the other one reverts to youtube for education. If anyone can help I would be thrilled

I've tried the URL from the school channel, the playlist and everything with no luck

Now at my other school

Can log on with staff proxy enabled so I can see youtube.com/schools. Can add vids to playlist. Header with presumably school ident is there. Cannot access the playlist or school channel address from a non-staff proxy browser.

Can anyone point at what I have done?

If anyone wants to visit me to give me a hand - I could make cake - or muffins - or anything really :(

The way we use it here is as such:

To add videos to playlists - log in to the staff proxy, then log in to youtube using the admin account used for youtube for schools. Add videos to playlists.

To watch videos - ensure they are not https:// links, HTTPS is blocked entirely. Distribute the playlist address to people who want it.

So, no-one other than me has access to the staff proxy here. They all just send me links to unblock things.
