kms upgrade questions

right in some schools due to a like og server grade kms key im using a vm as a kms server. Now i can use the tool to upgrade say win 8kms on the box to win8.1 kms (or i assume upgrade the os and shove an appropriate key in) but if i have 25 windows 7 activations when i start activating windows 8.1 do i need to hit 25 unique windows 8.1 activations or will my 25 win7 ones be enough and it will just work? as atm im just trsting so using mak keyswhich is fine for half a dozen pcs but id rather be able to use kms but dont see me hitting 25 anytime soon

Its 25 activations of a client OS (doesn't matter what version of Windows). This could be madeup of say 5 x visa, 10 Wndows 7, 5 x Windows 8 and 5 x Windows 8.1.

right as the school im in now has a win8 vm doing kms I upgraded that and its windows is quite happy. Tried adding office 2013 (it already does 2010) but that dosent seem to work added the msu file to allow and rebooted added my key but unlike the office 2010 it dosent show as enabled with slmgr

vamt tells me it cant find a kms server for it

 

do I need a 2nd pc to do this or should both run on one "server"

Have you added the Office 2012 KMS key?

 

By the way Office KMS doesn't work the same way as Windows. It runs separate activation counts, one for each product. But the threshold is 5 not 25.

yup slmgr /ipk /key or similar it said its accepted. I know office will need a new count but 5 is not going to cause me any headaches I will just install it on this stack of pants laptops to get my count up lol
