JAVA Administraton and Saftey. I DON'T WANT JAVA!

I have for years resisted firmly when ever someone asks for JAVA to be installed. I may now be forced to use it. What the best way to deploy and lock down JAVA. Also I never frequently update a program but with JAVA this will be a must. is it GPOs? best to update or delete and install?

 

is there an MST to lock it down, blah blah blah. I DON'T WANT JAVA!

We download the offline installer. We then run the installer so that it extracts the MSI in the AppData folder and then copy that to a central shared location. From there we can use SCCM to deploy it to our workstations.

Yeah that's what I do but I use ORCA to create the .msi which disables the system tray icon as well as never checks for updates.. I have the version 7 update 45 files if you want. This can be installed manually or deployed which won't require you to remove the old version of java installed. Just requires a restart after it is installed. Works great for me.

Yup, we use Orca to create an MST - that way it'll apply to new versions as they come, rather than modding the MSI each time. Horrible software, but when Java is still the de-facto language taught on many courses, it's not a surprise that stuff is lingering around which needs it.
