Server 2008, Windows 7 and Offline Files

I am something of a newbie to servers, domains etc. However, i am in a jam with regarding to the teachers using their laptops at home.

 

Servers are running 2008 and laptops are Windows 7.

The laptops have roaming profiles and redirected folders.

 

When the teachers are using at home, none of the shortcuts on the taskbar work and when clicking on Documents in the Start menu, nothing happens. However, if you click on your Username at the top of the start menu, it does take you to your My Documents.

Any shortcuts pinned to the start menu also fail to be recognised. In fact, when clicking on any pinned shortcuts, Windows informs they are no longer available and would you like to remove?

 

Bonkers. Could really do with some guidance on this. (Ever feel like you have bitten off more than you can chew?)

So are the redirected folders also cached?

Okay, take a deep breath. How would i tell? Where should i look for this? Really sorry.

On the server go to the folder you're sharing, properties, sharing, advanced sharing, caching. Check it's not disabled for that share.

 

They should be cached automatically though, there are group polices that can disable/enable that

Be careful - the "My Documents" that it takes you to when you click the username is a local one, and it saves it somewhere silly, like application data I think. I had to disable that username bit so they couldnt see it.

 

I can't see why your users cannot see their "My Documents" That would imply that redirection of documents isnt happening either.
