I have a Exchange 2013 Server installed on Hyper V. All services are started and Clients can connect fine even OWA and ActivSync brings up emails and I delete mail etc and it will sync fine.

When I send from and Outlook client the mail sits in the Outbox. Outlook is connected to the Server I just cannot send or receive.

I have restarted several times and have checked Services - Send and Receive connectors in ECP are all enabled. No queues on Server. Any advice would be welcome.

I have tried Cached and Online (online by default) and it is still the same. I use a prf file but this hasn't changed.

We have been getting a lot of problems so I took a snapshot and tried to install CU2 again. All was fine apart from I couldn't send/receive email so I reverted to the snapshot I took before I began and the problem remained.

I tried to do a Telnet to an external smtp system, ie, BT open world and it worked fine. I tried the same to my own server from my computer and all I get is a Press Any Key to continue and nothing happens. BT OpenWorld was fine.

99% sure outlook does not use SMTP to connect to exchange so that's a red herring.

Check firewalls are off ( at least for testing )

Check the RPC service on the CAS server ( is the CAS the same as the Mailbox server )

We had a very similar problem this week. The time was synced between the Exchange server and one DC, but the other DC was six minutes out. Fixed the time, sorted it.

message should still be picked up without the send connector during submission and be queued on exchange if no send connector exists. so it seems to be submission issue.

Is the send connector still in the exchange config, without that your mail is going nowhere.

As sukh says, send connector won't be the cause of the issue as it's not even getting to exchange.

I think OP has OWA working ok.

Which is why my thoughts are with the RPC service or the firewalls

we don't use rpc anymore over mapi but rpc/https so it really shouldn't be rpc ports blocked. test olk in online mode, if emails are sitting in outbox then test outlook in safe mode.

if all still fails, then enable outlook logging and pm me all logs zipped indicating time of issue.

Hi, I managed to get things working again on Saturday night.

I ran the CU2 v2 update again using the unattended command line - setup.exe /mode:Upgrade /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms

Rebooted Server and all seemed to comeback ok.

Thanks for you help - Still hasn't fixed my problem with accessing Shared Calendars though.

Shared Calendar access doesn't always pick up the correct permission when accessing a Calendar and won't let you make amendments even though in some case you have owner permission. Any advice on this would be good.
