JMB Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 I wonder if you can help. I am the ICT Technician in a SEN school in Devon. I am working on some drama with our FE students, who would very much like to put on a short version of Aladdin for the younger students. I have done some digging around, first on the Disney website, then on MFI, and then finally on the UK Josef Weinberger site, and it looks like permission for us to do a small show under the banner of “Aladdin Jr” would cost us £420. This is quite a bit beyond our means! We have a PRS licence that allows us to play music in school...I've emailed Josef Weinberger to plead for a discount, but can anyone with experience in this sort of thing give me any ideas that would enable to put this show on? I'm looking for loopholes, calling the show "Aladding", that sort of thing! :-)
TLARWise Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Try asking over at Blue Room technical forum, they may beable to give some good advice. 1
JMB Posted November 7, 2013 Author Posted November 7, 2013 Thanks HilcrRWise, I'll give the Blue Room a try, thanks for linking me up!
john Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Big name musicals cost stupid amounts of money, the rights for Grease last time I looked for it were stupid costs and makes them well out of the budget of a lot of small schools
Andrew_C Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 I live in the Blue Room... If Weinbergers own the rights, don't even THINK about trying anything "trick", they can be very very quick to reach for their lawyers. (Think "Having to have the font on your posters in the correct proportion size-wise") I'd advocate using a traditional Aladdin script, and then using songs from elsewhere with more reasonable rights-holders. It won't be free though!
dhicks Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Big name musicals cost stupid amounts of money So all we have to do is write a hit musical, priced at a level schools can afford, and we'll be earning royalties for years to come... 1
mavhc Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 So all we have to do is write a hit musical, priced at a level schools can afford, and we'll be earning royalties for years to come... But not that many royalties. Time for an ICT themed musical At end end of the day you must install updates And that's all you can say for the life of the poor...ICT technician It's a struggle, it's a war And there's malware that everyone's getting One more day installing updates, what is it for? One day less for supporting
