CentOS & VSFTPD questions

Hi guys,

So I recently built an FTP server (public) for our VoIP configs on CentOS using VSFTPD.

The problem I have now is that I cannot retrieve anything from the server. Uploading to the server is just fine, 3.6 Mbps. I'm lucky if I get a sustained 3Kbps download.

Some background:

VMware esx 5.1, using E1000 nic (also tried flexible). CentOS 5.5 and vsftpd. The config is good, we've all but ruled out issues with networking kit/hardware by testing other servers in the same subnet.

I'm thinking maybe something in the setup, or a problem with the VM itself.

 

I have some more testing to do, I was just wondering if anyone had experienced something similar/the same?

Have you tried using SFTP ? I use it more now than FTP.

 

Just fire up WinSCP or Filezilla and login with valid SSH credentials on port 22, and transfer away.

 

In failing that have you looked at SELinux ?

Not yet (SELinux) working on it this morning. when it comes to ideas... I'm a sponge!! keep sending them

CentOS 5.5 is rather old, I would strongly suggest upgrading if you're already poking around anyway.

 

I'd be looking to rule in/out the hypervisor layer, does a machine on the same ESXi host get the files any quicker on the FTP?

I suggest SFTP just to rule out any problems with VSFTP.

Nope, it does not. In fact i can't send/receive anything from a server on the same host......

It sounds like a duplex issue

run iperf on the same subnet and see what that says.

its not in the repo but there are plenty of rpms about and its easy to compile from source (just make sure you use the same versions)

It would appear we have routing issue.... Anything from this site routing out over the internet and back into our Fredericton site has the issue. Anything connecting in from Fredericton doesn't have the issue..... testing from home tonight, see if the issue persists over a different route.
