Haha, my local smurfs just helped me win a medal :D So there are these events in Ingress called anomalies where 100s of agents from both factions battle it out over a small geographical area. I was quite tempted to go along - well just because I liked the medal you got for it really - but I couldn't get the time off. However some sneaky little smurfs were planning on ruining the day by erecting a mega-field right over the whole event in London, but there was one fatal flaw to their Plan A the field was supposed to run through my territory. As my anchor portals started falling at 5pm to different smurfs I realised that something 'big' was going on, so I took a 3 hour drive home in the wrong direction and laid loads of blockers and totally thwarted their futile attempt. Muhahaha! And at the end of the day I got a Helios medal for my efforts. Huzzah! LOL X-D

I already have the Helios medal as I attended Helios Manchester. I also have Interitus, but not Recursion :(

Yeah, we're generally nice about shipping medals to agents that help but don't actually attend the anomaly site. I attended 2 Helios events and gave my second medal to my intel guy. Way I see it, operators are just as important as the people in the field. Good intel wins battles.

Yep, definitely! I was also instrumental in taking down/blocking the mega-field that was put up over the Interitus anomaly event in London. I had been battling several different smurfs throughout the day around Stonehenge and didn't even realise what was going on until they finally managed to get the field up. But my main man (scunc) went to take it down from its SW anchor and I laid blockers to stop it going back up. He managed to get a medal for that event but I didn't - not that I minded much, I was just glad that he got one because he was new to the game.

I think I must have beaten all the local smurfs as they seem to have given up bothering now, either that or they are sulking. They must realise that Resistance is futile. lol

One of our local lads has just got his 150 day guardian, I'm not really that fussed about it tbh. I've already got an onix badge for recharging (almost twice over) thanks to the increased decay rates. lol

You still thinking of doing your Op bruv? ;) Have you seen that they are planning to cover the entire UK in the Union Flag for Remembrance Day... it's quite an undertaking that's sure gonna take some coordination - across factions. Ooher! :croc:

Forgot to post in here.

Got a new phone so could finally play. Joined about a month ago and up to Lvl6, about to get Lvl7. Over Kent way so I think I am a bit remote from all you lot.

Read that as 'Lv 16' not 'Lvl 6'.. Was thinking '16 in a month?! What?!'

I've all-but-quit Ingress, personally. There's a player in my area with at least 4 accounts that we've reported but nothing gets done. Then the others that come through all play by car. I just can't be bothered playing against people that never leave their vehicle or resort to cheating. There's no fun it it.

That's good news TechMonkey well done on your progress (I hope you joined the right team :eyebrows: ). I'm not far off L16 now, been making the most of 1.5x AP and generally annoying my local smurfs with huge fields, them vs me it's about 12 vs 1, but I like a challenge.

Trying to speed grind up to Lvl8 so the real fun can begin. Starting to get a bit disillusioned though with the lack of defensive play. There is basically me and 1 other player in my town and the script is I go round, take portals, farm, build links and fields. He then gets a friend of his that is higher to come over and wipe it all out so he can claim the portal and get his friend to leave a Lvl8 and 7 on each portal. I then have farm really hard to get enough XMPs and dual strikes to take out these higher portals to remake. Add a few randoms from the other side sometimes descend (I think by request from the local) and shore up the portals or go on a rampage. It is good from an AP point of view but it just seems the constant flux leaves you feeling there is no point. Why bother if it is just going to be wiped out in a day.

I know the solution is probably to get some fellow Frogs to come do the same but I'm sure that will lead to having to repeatedly get them over. The smurfs in my area are really committed and seem to be out most days and well travelled.

Mostly I'm bummed I didn't make time Monday to go out and get some links up to create a load of fields that would have pushed me over into the next level and last night was a rampage.

I've also found that Significant Others are a hinderance to Portalling.

That sounds about right, but I'm glad you picked the right side :) Every odd Joe picks the Resistance hence why the game is so imbalanced, that makes us Enlightened thinkers the true Elite so we need to play accordingly against the horde. Granted that Ingress 'is' a totally pointless game, you kinda need to set your own objectives really; levelling up, badge/mission collecting, capturing/winning Mind Units for your cell across check-points (which is what it's really supposed to be all about but most people just have their own personal quests), operations, attending anomalies, making friends/frustrating enemies, take your pick. ;)

At least 350 people in Coventry yesterday, and only 4 from the 70ish Nottingham Enlightened went, so probably 10000 people in uk at least.

With Ingress Prime you can now Recurse if you're L16, go back to L1 but keep all your stats, and switch side if you wish to.

Gave it a quick look-in a few months ago, pretty much dead in my area.

I heard a while back they were planning on some big re-release, though. Apparently (I have no verified sources) they're re-doing the infrastructure and porting accounts across, so maybe that'll drum up interest again?

Yes, Prime. It hasn't gone quite to plan.

Oh, they've released it now?

They did that a bit... quietly?

Silent update of scanner, that turned out to be only half baked. Then they released a "redacted" version of the old one til the new one works fully. Typical Niantic really....

Sounds about right

That's not how you reignite interest in a game..

Then again, I can't see interest in Ingress being very high again unless they take out the microtransactions.

We all knew we were having our data analysed for Google Maps, specifically the directions/satnav feature. We were cool with that. That was a fair trade.

The microtransactions were just a massive slap in the face though. You gave us a game, we gave you maps data, that was the deal. Don't sit there and try to nickle-and-dime us out of cash, too.

You never need to buy stuff though

This is never a defence.

If a game includes microtransactions that give a player an edge, a boost, a buff, etc, the game will always in some manner be balanced around trying to get you to pay in.

I hear people who randomly live near a load of portals that are all high level and have loads of free time can get way more stuff than other people
