speed limits and penalties

Really quick question.

 

Does anyone know if you can get done for doing 31, 32 or 33 in a 30 limit? Basically there was a mobile speed camera sat in a 30 zone. Will i get done for doing those speeds?

Doubtful, it depends how much of anal retentive the bloke operating it was.

I think the allowance they give you is 34, a mobile speed van caught my mum doing 47 in a 30 but up the road there was conflicting speed signs some saying 30, 50 & national speed limit all over the place. I will post the pictures of them when the pending court case is over. There was even 2 different speed signs on one sign post.

thanks for the replies, it was more of a people carrier (like a galaxy) with a speed camera sign on it, with its boot open, now, i couldnt see a camera but it could have been hidden. Dont want to sound pathetic but has been playing on my mind all day.

You should get away with it as they usally give you about 10% because not all speedos are as well calibrated as their equipment.

well it would do everyone hates to be done speeding, the traffic wardens in manchester have speed guns now! We all know what traffic wardens are like with parking tickets now they are moving on to speeding as well.

I *Thought * I got caught 2 minutes after having my new car delivered and taking it for a test drive. This was despite driving past the mobile camera previously before turning around. I was going 35 in a 30.

 

Thankfully I didn't get done.

 

But I understand your feeling. It does play on your mind, and will do for a month or so.

 

Don't get me wrong, it was my own stupid fault. But it's worrying all the same.

 

I'm sure you're be fine - unlike me who was the laughing stock in the office for a while.

To be honest, it was pretty much the same as one shown below.

 

All this because i took the wrong turning at a roundabout, tootled along the road looking for this course center and didnt see the camera.

 

Will let you know what the outcome is tho.

Of course, if the camera hasn't been calibrated prior to use and the correct signs aren't clearly displayed you can argue your case. As ChrisH said, you do get a bit of lee-way so you are probably OK.

We've got a Gatso right outside our school and when it was first installed a couple of years ago it was set to zero-tolerance - even the head got a speeding ticket and he reckoned he was only doing about 32mph.

 

I shot through it one morning about 6 months ago and forgot it was there until I was right on it and doing 34 - 35mph. Didn't get a ticket so they'd obviously set it higher.

 

When I see one of the Speed Awareness vans stuck on a corner somewhere I slowwwwwwwww downnnnnnrealllyyyyyyyyy slowwwwwwwwwwwwww to piss them off. My record so far is 5mph.....

 

....it was a bugger to stop the car from stalling.

I have just done a driver awareness course at Dorset Police Headquarters instead of getting 3 points on my licence and they said that you could do 34 in a 30 and not get done. We had all been caught doing 36 or 37 so the leeway for getting away with it is small, but you should be OK

The problem ive always had with that theory is in order to do 30 and not 1mph over you have to be paying more attention to the speedo than the road.

 

Personally id rather see the kid stepping out and brake, missing the child completely, or atleast slowing to 10-15mph, than plough straight into him at exactly 30mph.

So what were you doing to get caught and ive heard about those courses. I didnt know they were taht bad,

Jeremey Clarkson (i dont think i've spelt it right) says that expandable builders foam works wonders for the cameras...also there are people that sling a tyre round the top and fill it with petrol and then set fire to it. I've seen them with the tyre still on .... most amusing.

The stuff about the spray is a load of bull - a copper friend of mine says so and that the only time they don't get the number plate in a pic is when it's physically covered up or there isn't one on the car - which happens more often than people realise.

nope, the government claim speed cameras are put in "black spot areas" so the detectors inform the drivers were the "black spot areas" are so its a safety device.
