wroberts Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Hi All I am wanting to make it so a member of our SLT can see Active Directory, and when i say "See" i literally mean to be able to view the Users within active directory. I want them to be able to Search for usernames and thats all. ! Anyone got any ideas ? Regards Will
wroberts Posted October 28, 2013 Author Posted October 28, 2013 We have a piece of software called E-Safe that monitors the children and alerts the SLT to any violations (Swearing etc). Our username convention is not particularly intuitive and we constantly get emails fromSLT asking for us to tell him who each user name refers to. We need him to be able to search himself as this is takingup large portions of our time however we do not have the Confidence in allowing full read write access to AD/
Edu-IT Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Could you not just export a list of users, to a file you both have access to? Low tech solution but means they don't have to go near AD.

This was the inital plan however our list of users changes quite a lot as we are a "learning program' school which means we can have weekly changes to AD !?
FN-GM Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 By default i think users will have read only rights to AD. In theory just install the RSAT tools and your away.

FN-GM Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Can you let me know if that is correct i am not 100% sure. Thanks
rj_mayer Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Can't really imagine what the root requirements are here, but if this was asked if me, I'd spin out a little web page, searchable if necessary, that queries AD over LDAP. Easy if you have a web server that can run PHP or similar. I'd even write it for a small fee...
MatthewL Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 By default domain users can view this so just create him a mmc snap in of say the staff and students OU so incase you have any OU's you have unrestricted stuff in he wont come in and say why is this in there or why is that user there, create a customised one to save the hassle if that makes sense.

This is the simplest solution in my opinion.
