The 5.9" Nexus 6 should be physically smaller than Apple's 5.5" iPhone 6 Plus if that makes any difference?

 

 

Interesting to see the size comparison but personally I'd draw the line at around 5" for a phone.

5.9" as a 6'4" man with pianist's fingers, even I find it awkward on my 4.7" Nexus 4 sometimes, if a button is top left (Steam menu, I'm looking at you). 5.9" is far too big for anyone.

 

But I love the Nexus phones so much, nothing else comes close at the price

Nexus5 is the best phone I've had, love the rubber back, qi charging, screen, the OS flexibility and build quality. Only downer is the battery life. Kinda just wanted an updated version of that.

 

Large phone does have the advantage of a larger battery I suppose.

Negated by the larger screen draining more power. It'll probably have a needlessly high res as well; no point in going higher than 1080p as best I can tell, but big numbers make marketing happy.

 

Anyone else here wish they'd start prioritising battery life over thinness as well? I don't care if it's 0.9mm thinner than the last gen, it lasts four hours less and the only way I can get it to the end of the day is to never use it. Make it double chunky and last two days, goddammit! (Also a slide out landscape QWERTY keyboard, but I will concede that I am in the minority on that.)

I did see a small bump in battery life when running L preview. You can run 4.4 in ART if you want too, although some apps did play nice last time I checked.

Can't find any actual dimensions for screens alone on the N4 (let alone the N6), but doing a simple square of the diagonal (pretending the screens are square) the Nexus 6 is (5.9^2)/(4.7^2) = 157% of the area. The res bump will take more battery as well (is it the G3 with the 1440p screen? That battery suffered as a result), and the problem with battery tech is that it never really changes. Stupid laws of physics and chemistry getting in the way!

Also want them to improve their camera, it's the one thing the iPhone is miles ahead of in terms of quality.

What's going to happen next year? They just going to release a tablet nexus 7 worth WiFi only and a phone nexus 7 with mobile too?

I'm pretty disappointed they aren't doing an official release for the Nexus 4. I don't want a bigger phone, I'm happy with the NExus 4 and there seems little point in upgrading to a Nexus 5 if that is going to be dropped from updates next year!

Googler Sascha Prüter clarifies in a Google+ post that the Nexus 4's conspicuous absense is "just a mistake." Indeed, the error is already fixed. There's no specific word on timing, but if history is anything to go by, the N4 will fall right in line with the rest of the Nexus updates soon enough.
