Mac OSX Mountain Lion - VirtualBox

Hi all!

 

So I was trying to create a hackintosh on virtualbox I have created the iso and followed the steps on How to Run Mac OS X Inside Windows Using VirtualBox (by the way I have bought my copy of Mac OSX!!!) Although when I get to step 2 on this tutorial and try to load my iso through HackBoot it just give me an error saying /Can't find match kernel.

 

Anyone got any hints and tips!! I just want to have a play with the Mac software as we have plenty of Mac's at my school and I want to teach myself some stuff in my spare time!

FYI just saying you purchased the OS still isn't kosher in the eyes of Apple. In Apple's legal eyes OSX can only be installed on Apple hardware and OSX can be virtualized only on Apple hardware.

 

If by just bought meaning less than 4-5 days then you probably ended up with Mavericks and not Mountain Lion of which those instructions were for. You sure you have the correct OS?

See this is what I hate about Apple you try to do things legitimately but if you don't purchase "their" Macs. Which is effectively a PC with a shiny aluminium case around it! You're not within the law. All I want to do is learn their software a bit better for work. It feels that whatever you buy from Apple it's still owned by Apple and if Apple say no we don't want you to do that, it's end of story for the user and that's it grrrr they make me so angry... Rant Over.

You can buy Mac Mini's for around £100...and each itteration of OSX for £10-£15...so for £150 or so you can have 4 different OSXs and hardware to learn on...cheaper than buying the Pro Version of XP/Vista/7/8/8.1

I get that second hand off ebay but the issue is some of them are running Celeron processors how is that going to run Mavericks smoothly and efficiently so I can have a play with the software. Your looking at around 300-400 pounds to do this as you'd have to buy decent hardware to run on it and because they shove the Apple logo on an i3 processor it's suddenly worth £500!!

Just looking on ebay, a 2009 model is going currently for £99. 2GB RAM, 120GB HDD, Core 2 Duo chip. On my phone so can't copy the link. The would run Mavericks with ease.

No Mac has ever had a Celeron, or even Pentium chip. Lowest spec Intel powered was the Core Duo years back, but older compatible Macs will capably run Mavericks with RAM upgrades etc.

You can run Mavericks decently on an early 2009 Mac mini which has an Intel Core 2 Duo P7350 (2.0GHz) or P8400 (2.26GHz). You will need more than 2GB RAM though.

 

I have one myself that I am going to put on eBay soon. However, I won't be selling it for £99 since it has 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 500GB HDD (among many other things).

That's not the only reason.

 

@3s-gtech is right. Apple have never sold Mac's with Celeron or Pentium CPUs in them (because they are rubbish!).
