Instead of plastic, someone will end up making a 3d Metal printer. Only a matter of time before weapons can be mass developed by the public

Go in to anyone garage/shed and you'll find parts that could be used to make a gun.

 

Are the police going to arrest you for having some pipe and nails etc.....

UK's 'first 3D printed gun' is not what it seems

 

"It does look like the MakerBot part," says Stuart Offer of 3D-printing firm 3T RPD in Newbury, UK. "These 3D printed guns seem to have hit the headlines, but I've no idea why they take off so much," he says. "A little engineer in his shed with a mill down the bottom of the garden could make a proper metal barrel capable of firing a high-velocity bullet."

 

All 3D-printed guns made so far don't work for long, because after a few shots, the pressure produced by firing weakens and breaks the barrel. Wilson's gun uses changeable barrels to allow someone to fire the gun again. Would-be gun-printers must also use regular ammunition, because it is not yet possible to print bullets.

They already can be. Most of the difficult work in a modern weapon is in the cartridge. With a self primed cartridge, a metal tube and a nail will do.

Earlier this year, Cody Wilson and his nonprofit organization Defense Distributed created the world’s first 3D-printed semi-automatic firearm, and later, a handgun. Eight months later, another group in Austin has now created what it claims to be the world’s first 3D-printed metal gun.

 

“The gun is composed of 30+ 3D printed components with 17-4 Stainless Steel and Inconel 625 materials. We completed it with a Selective Laser Sintered (SLS) 3D printed hand grip, because we’re kind of crazy about 3D printing.”

 

But the company warned that this isn’t something that most people are going to be able to replicate at home anytime soon.
