Netsupport School - Softimage XSI

:?: Hi, I have a problem when using netsupport school (v. 8.01) in combination with Avid Softimage XSI (v. 5.11).

 

When I try to see the students from tutor while he executes software softimage XSI, I cannot see the view ports in the interface ( I see them like a white box ). It happens the same when I show to the students from the tutor's computer. This problem does'nt happen whith annother software.

 

we work in windows XP sp 2, PC Pentium 4 1GB RAM. NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GS. LAN 100.0 Mbps.

 

is some way to solve this problem? Is a hardware or software problem ?

I'm not familar with the Softimage XSI software but by the looks of it (and your user name!) it is using DirectX to display output on the screen.

 

All remote control/classroom management products struggle with DirectX as it bypasses the usual Windows GDI subsystem. However you should be able to get round this by switching to screen scrape mode at the client.

 

I think with your version you will need to re-configure the client to use screen scrape (later versions you can do it on the fly from the View window). To change it at the client go to the remote control section and select Enable Screen Scrape.

we can now sucessfully control students' screens while actually seeing what we are doing.

 

What we haven't been able to do is find a way to make it work the other way around, that is, broadcast our screen to the students, since that remote control panel is only to be found at the tutor client.

 

We have found a somewhat convoluted way to fix it.

We control a student's computer, open xsi, then broadcast it's computer.

 

it seems to work, anyway.
