Meraki MDM woes

I really do find the apple management of iPads to be.... can't use any of the words on here... not very good.

 

I have a little mac mini that i use to configure the ipads and put the meraki MDM on. On Monday I was asked to put on all the big stuff on them (iPhoto, iMovie, Garageband) and its taking hours. The annoying thing I reimaged all the units and a few just decide not to want to install the meraki mdm bit... so I have to go through the whole process again.

 

Its just very tiring and we only have 20 of the things. The Chromebooks are so much easier

 

PS. Its prompting for the iTunes password after every instal now, there is no 15 minute wait. I have seen the setting on the MDM console but it doesn't make a different. So sick of putting in 123456

yes, I read that app deployment requires user input. Really Meraki MDM is more for managing BYOD devices was my thought.

it's the way apple wants it to be. We have over 2k iPads, and to say it's a bloody nightmare to manage them would be an understatement. I won't get into my apple rant, but if you can talk your admin staff out of buying crapples you will be saving yourselves a lot of headaches.

iPads are consumer devices, they where not designed to be used this way. I do wish they where loads better though.

try to explain that to an administrator. They have drunk the apple koolaid.

Are your devices actually picking up the changes you make? I use Meraki and I am able to install apps without the constant prompt so it can do it. Have you tried changing another setting to see whether this applies to the device?

I will have a look tomorrow, I brought one home to have a play with and the paid apps are showing as being allocated a serial. The Geofencing function works well, sent me an email when I connected at home with my address.

What's that? Sounds like a new feature.

I think it is, you set a home location for the devices and a range and when it goes outside that range it emails you the details, even down to the address your at (close anyway)

 

When I got into work this morning it pinged me an email telling me it had come back into the fence.

 

Nice.... although one of the ipads has been sat on my desk all weekend and its reporting as being in Kingston Upon Thames int he console... the geofencing didn't ping up for this so I imagine they are seperate.
