WSUS server shows IE10 as 'not applicable'

my win2008r2 wsus server has downloaded and set to install IE10 x32 version.

 

on WSUS all my win7 x32 clients are showing as 'not applicable' for that update

 

- all other wsus updates install ok

- the clients definitely don't have IE10 already, they are all on IE9

- I have installed the prequesities as MS article

- I connect to windows update and check 'online' and it finds and wants to install IE10 fine.

- I have run various scripts to make the client re-check in with the WSUS

 

ideas please?

I too have had this problem.

 

I found my machines were missing KB2834140 patch. I found this out by doing a manual IE 10 install on one of the machines and looking at the log file created in c:\windows\IE10_main.log. Once this patch was installed all of my Windows 7 machines checked into WSUS and installed IE10.

You need to deploy the Win 7 Platform Update via WSUS. IE10 will then install fine.

 

Why Microsoft didn't include it as part of the Win 7 IE10 installer I'll never know!

I had this problem too. I had to import KB2670838 and then approve it as well as approve KB2834140 then IE 10 started to install properly. Your tips got me there. Thanks. I got the google apps is dropping support for IE9 message recently, and I was anxious to get IE 10 installed.

I fixed this today also, by going to another machine, manually installing ie10 then checking the ie10_main.log for the prereqs it needed, then approved or imported them into wsus.

It's the same for IE11 too - you'll need the Platform Update installed, but it's unclear (at the moment) whether it's the same Platform Update as for IE10 or a revised version.

It's exactly the same platform update if you check the KB articles for the IE11 pre-reqs.
