laserblazer Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 I'm looking for something for the wife and am hovering between a Kindle Fire HD and a Hudl. We want something to take with us to Portugal that has hdmi to connect to the TV. We will probably be losing the UK Freeview channels when they switch to the Astra 2E satellite, so being able to watch content from the tablet would be useful. We will also use it for the odd browsing session and checking emails. The hudl spec looks good but I'm put off by the Tesco related stuff they put on it and also how good it would be as an eReader on a sunny patio. Any guidance would be appreciated.
yugo Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 Think I would opt for the Hudl. It is closer to vanilla android than the kindle is. 1
mats Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 Fire or hudl? Well, one's going to be tied to an online retailer and be full of annoying carp, and the other one will be tied to a retailer and full of annoying carp. I'd look elsewhere personally.
Boredguy Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 The Fire is not too bad, but it's not that great out in the sun since it's not e-ink.
chazzy2501 Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 (edited) fire has a better screen but the hudle has the google store. You can always add Amazon store to the hudle if you want to later. Google store is a real winner esp, Angry Birds Starwars 2 for free! and Candy Crush I purchased a b grade 7" Gemini tab for £29.99 and the play store is fab! Edited October 16, 2013 by chazzy2501
laserblazer Posted October 20, 2013 Author Posted October 20, 2013 Just trawled our local Tescos for a Hudl and nearly struck lucky at one but they'd just sold the last one! I nearly bought a Prestagio from Maplins but it was £20 more, lower res, less memory and no GPS. So, I've ordered a Hudl online but it won't be here before we go away. Ah well, something to look forward to on our return.
