Dead LAN on Dell Vostro 3550

I have a Dell Vostro 3550 where the LAN card just seems to be completely dead - despite being enabled in the BIOS and having run a BIOS update it will not PXE boot or show in Win XP/Win 7 Device manager. Wireless LAN is working fine though.

 

I just wondered if anyone had come across this before or any other ideas? Have compared the settings to an identical laptop but still does not see it at all.

If you have an identical machine that works, have you swapped HDDs' to see if you can isolate it to the hardware on the laptop?
