No Start Screen customising via GPO if you are on an EES licence? [Solved]

Hi Oh Dear.

 

Have you managed to find a solution to this. I'm also finding that when the group policy setting "Remove common program groups from Start Menu" is policy enabled, not all the customizations I make in the XML file are applied and there are missing tiles on the start screen.

 

Has anyone successfully customised the "All Apps" screen as well as the start menu tiles?

 

I've tried start menu folder redirection as well, but seem to be having no luck with customizing both the tiles and "apps" screen at the same time.

yes ive disable common stuff redirected to the same start menu as win7 and pinned the junk i want and its worked fine first time

Same here, we have the Start Screen XML now working, with All Apps pointed at the same redirected folder as Windows 7 - gives a nice mix of the two environments and seems to be working well.

I'm only just starting to look into this again. Just been playing again though and I still cant get all the pinned apps to show if I redirect to a local folder and remove common programs...

 

Any chance someone with it working can let me see their XML?

Hi,

 

Working perfectly here. There was a group policy that stopped it working at one point, "Prevent users from making changes to the start menu." Or similar.

 

Will copy and paste our XML tomorrow. It worked from Netlogon or from a local folder on the C drive root.

That's our particular set - Office 2010, SIMS and Journal along with IE and the Desktop. {7C5A40EF-A0FB-4BFC-874A-C0F2E0B9FA8E} represents "Program Files (x86)".

What happens if you copy Desktop.lnk from %ProgramData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs to %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs and then create the XML file?

desktop is a file that needs copying to wherever youve redirected your start menu

Sorted now! Thanks @Arthur and @sted - Seems like all of the shortcuts don't have the {7C5A40EF-A0FB-4BFC-874A-C0F2E0B9FA8E} in-front have to be in the same folder its redirected to..
