timbo343 Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Got a little problem with 4od on youtube. I have just found out for videos to work, machines/devices need a default gateway in to play the videos otherwise you get An error occurred. Please try again later Learn more. On my network, we dont push out a default gateway on domain connected machines and it is not something that i want to do either, so i am wondering if there is a work around to this with smoothwall? or am i just going to have to bite the bullet and start to push out a default gateway to all domain attached machines?
Michael Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Surely your gateway is your Smoothwall? So pushing out its IP shouldn't be a problem?
timbo343 Posted October 8, 2013 Author Posted October 8, 2013 Thats right. In the past we have never set the gateway. It then means if anyone tries to connect any device to the network by plugging it into an ethernet socket, they cannot get out to the net unless they either add their device to the domain or put in the proxy details.
nicholab Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Not having one can break so may things. You would need one if you where using VLAN's.
timbo343 Posted October 8, 2013 Author Posted October 8, 2013 Yeah i realise that but would you not worry at the fact when this is set. if someone unplugs a domain PC and plugs in a laptop which results in the device been able to get straight onto the net as DHCP is giving out a default gateway?

Nope as your Smoothie should be set to require auth on that main LAN and thus unless they auth against it they won't be going anywhere fast anyway... As has been said you will need it for VLANs so it can work its way around correctly and without it breaks so many things that it really is a must have.
timbo343 Posted October 8, 2013 Author Posted October 8, 2013 Looks like ive got to look at this now.. hey ho.
nicholab Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 If are really worried about security you should use radius.
